I hear you Pap. My parents were the same, came to Australia in the 50’s from Greece and worked hard to help build the country and provide for the family. Dad worked for the railways in Victoria laying railway tracks through the bush. Brings tears to my eyes looking through the old photos and seeing how hard it would have been. Dad is the one squatting. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Brilliant. And these are the stories that made this country so great. I fear that at least some of the more recent arrivals don’t have the same level of desire to contribute and improve this place like your (and my) ancestors did. Why they seem determined to turn our country into the schitt hole they left is anyone’s guess.
Thanks for sharing man, maybe your Dad and my Dad were on the same boat? lol My Dad came to Australia in 1953. He wanted to come straight to Mount Isa, but they missed the coast of QLD because they got blown out to sea and just by chance Dad said the weather changed and it pushed them back to the "mainland" and they ended up in Victoria. If the weather didn't change they would have floated off and died out at sea for sure he said. Dad hitchhiked his way up to QLD and started working underground the next day he arrived here in Mount Isa. Interesting they both laid railway tracks. One in rural Victoria out in the bush and one in rural Queensland in an underground mine lol Amazing where their life journey took them and where they ended up.
Who knows, maybe is your dad one of these guys? ‘My dad is the one with the cigarette hanging out of his mouth and what looks like a handkerchief on his head. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great pic man! Unfortunately my Dad isn't there by the looks. His boat didn't look that flash either from what I understand lol An old wooden sailboat with no engine he said. My Dad was lucky to make it, a few of his fellow migrants didn't. Two got delirious from starvation and dehydration and jumped overboard to swim to land they saw and two got tossed out of the boat during wild weather. All 4x men never to be seen again.
My old address Redgum cres Bowen Mountain Did you notice the hill on the way up which rolls uphill due to optical illusion ? My girls use to laugh watching my car roll uphill
