I hope they don't penalize him as the BMW was a lapped car, it should've given him enough space. Seen the footage from 3 viewpoints, and I think it was just a racing incident, but I do think the stewards will not let it go by unpunished.
I agree, 2 hypercars overtaking a GT3 car and not fighting for position, BMW kinda forced the issue. can't really explain Kubica's abrupt maneuver but avoidable by the (second!) overtaking car.
There was no apparent leftward steering input from the BMW driver and Kubica* definitely moved right, so I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if there’s no penalty. *predictive text tried to blame Stanley Kubrick.
On the radio he said the GT3 driver turned in due to a kink and he reflexively corrected to keep far. As he had already overtaken the BMW and it was on his blind spot, there was contact. Not sure if that will fly, but that was his excuse on the radio.
True, and I wonder if it's because they don't want to do it while the SC is out, as he might be "benefitted" by that, although I struggle to see how. I'm thinking there might be no penalty...
Effectively everyone can be back in the game, especially the Cadillacs. I also expect this to be the first but not the last SC, especially if the rain comes early sunday morning...
