That is not what I saw... although No.6 got pole the Ferrari immediately pulled away from the beginning. The commentators on Eurosport even said the Ferrari might have sandbagged during qualy...
I never saw that Porsche as the fastest car, even the Toyota looked faster in the race.
But overall there was not much in between them

Yeah, Ferrari showed the best race pace form the first minute onward. The onslaught of Porsche cars and amazing drivers couldn't keep up for the whole race, even though the number 6 was constantly "there". The Toyotas like last year were the silent threat.

The raw emotion flowing from a young racer that just won the greatest race in the world, after it was almost snatched away from him. Watch Nielsens face at the end. A true racer.

The greatest fuel saving job I've ever seen in racing. Period.

Last year I thought Ferrari won because (bar a heart attack for the Tifosi at the last pitstop) they got everything right. This year all sorts of things seemed to go wrong: bad tyre choice; unsafe pit exit; flapping door; one or two kisses with the wall. Lucky, I think, not to get a penalty for that near miss in the pitlane and fortunate that the rain at the end allowed them to eke it out without another stop. But no-one else got everything right either. Another great win. And worth so much more because, as last year, it was so hard fought against such tough opposition.

Oh, and imagine being the crew member who didn't close the door properly if they'd lost by a few seconds!

I think I lost some years of life in that last lap.

It's interesting how they gained the few laps they needed to make the strategy work: "the door is open? What door? Really?"

all race control works the same way, and all teams work the same way. never bring the car in until you're threatened with a penalty. who knows, he might have gotten it closed on his own.... If it were me, i'd be giving him some sort of other tether to pull on rather than the door release.

They were petitioning the ACO to give them a few laps to try and shut the door on their own, which the former granted in good faith, which was the right move at the time from race control, before the latter finally did order them to pit.

I see no problem. Ferrari simple realized they had one strategy option to win given the circumstances, and it would take balls of steel to commit to it.

They lost their rearview mirror in the beginning of the race. I think the spirit of Franco was with them:

That was a gift from the race Gods that nobody knew. They never would have tried that. They went for the balls move figuring nothing left to lose and made it stick. Great drive.
