That car has been discussed before, “sold” via Collecting Cars for $270k a few months back. It’s also an example of how to get the trim around the gear gate wrong, that would drive me nuts
Does anyone know the history of this 328? https://www.grays.com/lot/0001-50708384/sports-and-luxury-cars/1989-ferrari-328gts-3-2l-v8-5-speed
Collecting Cars is an auction site with no integrity whatsoever. Apart from my own direct experience, I've heard similar experiences from others.
VIN and external rear view mirrors indicate Australian spec and delivery but speedometer is in MPH? Danger Will Robinson, Danger!
I have almost nothing on that 328. Note, the odometer is actually miles, so 15,762 kms. It doesn't make sense to have a MPH speedometer in what is clearly an Australian delivered car. It could have been used in the UK for some time, that might explain it. But then you'd put the original speedometer back in when you repatriated it I would think. I have it as owned at least since 1993 by a David C, however I have nothing to suggest he didn't own it earlier, maybe from new. Any chance of an image from the service book front page? Unless the speedometer change is documented, let some fool buy it.
I don't know about 328s but 308 speedos are notoriously unreliable - as mentioned previously, I have receipts for numerous replacements one of which notes 'moved forward to reflect actual usage" (or words to that effect, can't be asked to get out the receipt).
No mention or photos of books would suggest that they don't exist. That is a walk-away factor right there. If it was a genuine car, you wouldn't use Grays to sell it.
When we had our MHT dealership in England more than 23 years ago we did have an Australian spec 328GTS with extreme low mileage as a service client. I cannot remember if we were obliged to fit a an MPH speedo as a UK registration requirement. Sorry....no records survive !
I've now got the inside info on the 328. Horse bought a statutory write off 328 for $50K, then Pat's 308 for another $50K as a parts mule. He got Pap to bolt it together for 14 slabs of XXXX and a VR Commodore. At $150K bid, he's making a killing!
