That kind of ask leads me to believe it probably didn't meet reserve today... (IA doesn't reveal either way)

Beautiful USA F40, this is 91097 which we have sold twice in the distant past, it's actually built in September 1991.

    At auction? No. #3.
For a European-spec car in any sales medium? No. I've been sent a couple results higher privately and I'm sure Joe knows at least 5-10x as many as I do.
For a European-spec car at auction? Yes, beating #84116 earlier this year at $3,360,000.

How are model years determined? Is it truly by date of manufacture completion, or is there a range? Asking as an owner of a December 1991 build that was advertised as a 1992 car. I call it a 1991.

If it is a US car as a matter of law it is declared in the VIN by the tenth digit. For 90, 91,92 it was L,M,N.

One of the reasons in the Ferrari world there is such a heavy use of serial numbers is because there is no world standard. Various countries have various methods of deciding on a cars legal year model and it is not always even based on when its built.

Also as a December build 99% chance no matter the make (even a Ford) or what country it was built in its a 92.

Thank you. Mine is a ROW car. Marcel's report shows date of origination and completion of the build. Based off your experience, I'll call it a 1992 now.

Original Curated ad for my car.

I bought it because of the condition and report from my inspection, not because it was advertised as a 1992.

88767 has come a long way since it showed up as a nice red/red F40 Germany-registered H-F 40 with Andreas Grajewski in the company of no less than 9 other F40s at the Ferrari Racing Days held at Oschersleben, from July the 3rd - 5th 1998.

One wonders what it'll cost to turn back the clock.

Hi Joe - what do we know about this car?

    https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1989-ferrari-f40-1

I'm new to this forum, first thing I've ever typed on it but I've learned these cars can have troublesome identities etc - and obviously I can see this car has been, erm, well, modified (not improved in my view) - but is it a car know to this forum?

Sold for 1,509,000 USD all-in. The lowest F40 sale at auction since 19 Jul 2021. Looks like a modified car coming out of Thailand was a tough sell, and it's good to see the seller and CC were realistic about reserve.

Did you see the post right above yours?

I have now -- new to all this forum stuff. To me, that looks like a good buy for someone if returned to factory spec. Thanks for the reply and context.
