So now that I have the Power Acoustik radio installed I have decided not to install the aftermarket LCD mirror for the reverse camera (the project I was supposed to do last year but life got in the way) and simply hook it up to the new radio.

For the long July 4th weekend, I want to build my reverse light harness to power the reverse camera. Since I am pretty nuts about not tapping or modifying factory wiring I have the connectors to put in between the tail lights and harness to power the camera, I just need to confirm the wiring pin out of the inner US light connector. I know I could easily meter it out when I have everything apart with my son putting the car into reverse, but it would be nice to have everything prebuilt before I take things apart.

I have not found the details needed when I did both a google search and a search here. I did find some information about the European tail lamps, but that doesn't help me on my US Spec 2009 F430.

Anyone have the pin outs for the US reverse tail lamps or have tapped the reverse light to power a camera and can share which is the correct wire in the connector?

    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Corey

My 1999 360 inner passenger side rear light wire was red with black stripe. May be different on 430.

Red/black striped wire is reverse (whatever the country). That's all you need to know. Well, black is earth if you need it for the installation.

I was surprised to hear that the resistance of the camera circuit didn't seem to affect the brightness of the light.

No it's best to just blindly guess. Add some beers and you will be all into just splicing into the harness like the rest of us.

I forgot that I have the scudding swiss LED upgraded rear lights, so I had the OEM light parts in my basement.

So I removed the bulbs from the OEM part since a cold bulb is low resistance and plugged my weatherproof connectors in. I was able to see which pin is the common ground and which pin is for the central bulb. Assuming that the lights are common ground and not common positive ( I know the car is Italian, but I doubt it), I should be good to install the camera over the long weekend. The big question is…can I use a wireless video transmitter or will I have to start tearing the interior apart. If the latter, I may wait till I do my rear interior window replacement in the fall to minimize summer downtime.

My rule when it comes to wired vs wireless is that if it doesn’t move it gets wired.

The only things I removed out of my interior were the left and right rear ECU covers and the drivers seat.

Where did the cable run under once in the cabin? There is no clearance between with the full OEM carbon fiber center console and the carpet without removing everything. I have the full carbon console and the Bose “box” in the way.

I went from the passenger side, through both ECU areas and then ran it down drivers side tunnel. I used a trim tool to push the wire up and into the tunnel. I could pull the leather wrapped tunnel piece out a little to really hide the wire. You might not be able to do that with the carbon…

See post #398 under “New Contender for Single DIN” for routing in 360. My center console is carbon as well and wanted to make sure to not crack it when hiding the rear camera. Probably very similar for 430. Easy to route thru the tunnel.
