Just booked the ferry today for our November trip to Tassie in the Emira. Couple of nights in Melbourne on the way back, but you can’t have everything.
Problem with construction industry now is lack of tradesmen. Not going to get fixed anytime soon and things are going to get a LOT worse before they get better. Many older builders retired during Covid and few of the companies have been passed on to family or apprentices/employees as happened in the past. Tradies hold ALL the keys at present. BTW, there IS actually ample housing stock across Australia. but so much sitting empty, abandoned, underutilised.
Too................FUNNY , how the left and the Greens are concerned about Payman and her Muslim Teals running in hardcore Muslim areas at the next FED election . Now using the term " Identity Politics" Just love the CHAOS!
If I was anywhere near that place I’d walk there and tear all that **** down. And obviously I’m no fan of Albo. In fact I’ve torn down more than a few pro Palestinian posters and BS wherever I’ve found them. Why do we just put up with this crap? If these losers are so determined to support terrorists let them **** off over to that **** hole and leave what was our beautiful country alone.
LOL the Allan Government in Victoria and the CMFU, claiming she had NFI about the corruption on the Big Build!
The latest media exposure of the CMFEU only touches on the very surface of a vile money pit of corruption and stand over tactics and violent threats on peoples lives and families. I have been on building sites where the unions reign supreme, and where the the events that take place on the ones who don't want to join or worse, think for themselves make the Soprano's look like choir boys. This goes on all under the veil of "workers rights and conditions" when its actually "intimidation and threats of violence". I thought that Norm Gallagher and the BLF in their day were bad, they could only aspire. They were de-registered. Only last month I had a fellow in at work who's wife and children well being were used to threaten him to meet their demands. While in the background Labor do nothing. A disgrace.
Too funny how one of the contract companies for the Victorian Big Build,is an Aboriginal owned company , that has been threatened
Construction industry is heading for big trouble, even without the unions. I checked the QBCC records this weekend and Qld had over 3000 LESS licensed builders in 2023 than 2021. Old guys retiring, young guys going into other industries (esp mining) equals huge skills shortage. No idea whee they are going to get the manpower for the Olympics construction, although housing will slow now that costs are getting so out of hand. Now $10,000 sq m for high end custom construction ...
Latest calculations for qualified Tradies to build what's needed for the games is around 250,000. Albo-sleasy imported over a million people in the last two years with no hope of building enough housing for them. You need at least additional 200,000 trades we don' have to do all this. All this, and then you add the delays in building approvals with the public servants and material shortages etc, it will be good to see how all this is going to appear before the first starters gun goes off. Have a look at how many building companies have gone to the wall in recent months, the numbers are going down instead of up. Great stuff
Actually the scary part is it is NOT one of our 'extravagant' projects (they run to $10m in 'normal' times). Original budget was $1.5m; we get preliminary pricing at Design Development stage and that came in at around $2m so the project was scaled back and simplified significantly and when working drawings were priced, the reduced simpler building came in at around $3m for 300sq m - ie $10,000 sq m. The scary part is this is NOT to do with material costs; all about labour and RISK.
I've financed several developments in the last 18 months, clearly you have NO idea try 30 % plus increase in materials.

If I had to bet the house I’d say it’ll be a minority Labor / Greens / fake independents government which will be an absolute disaster for the country. The worst possible result by far. There is a small chance the Coalition will win in their own right, and a smaller chance they may govern in minority (if they win more seats than Labor there is a small chance enough of the independents would support them to form government). There is no chance at all that Labor will have majority government. Overall I’d say 60% likelihood minority Labor, 30% majority Coalition, 10% minority Coalition. Numbers may change as the campaign goes on. But 0% majority Labor no matter what happens.
