Your correct #417 was just recently sold here in Australia.
Mine is #425 imported from UK about 18 months ago.
I believe #417 presents well but is in need of a motor rebuild.
Good luck to the purchaser and i hope it doesn't remain a garage queen that it has been for the past 20 years or so.

 

Hi Greg ah yes I remember now you had posted about buying 425, funnily enough on page 425 of the Khamsin thread. That is the old Perry Aldred car which was in a couple of Classic & Sportcar articles. It was also in a 1988 Classic cars article in which several sporsts car owners (Iso Lele, 308 GT4, Porsche, Jaguar, Aston V8) traded cars for a few hours to exchange views on them; here is the segment when they drive Perry's car. Enjoy it and the car!

We took our Vignale Spyder to a great local show in Northville Michigan on Sunday. The special condition here is that it is arranged by some 20 year olds, and they use young “judges” all in an attempt to get younger folks engaged in our hobby. It’s at this great setting at an old water mill with several historical buildings with proceeds to charity. It’s about 25 miles from our house and Lori drove our XK120 to the show too. Is that Alice's restaurant on Skyline blvd? I used to drive my Bora & Biturbo on that road a lot and that was my turn around spot to return to SF via 280. Such a great road.

 

Yes, Alices was my turnaround spot when I lived in the City also. Now I live just a few miles from it on Skyline! They used my old Indian motorcycles on all of their advertising & Tee Shirts now!

 

Before the 89 quake I would turn onto Oak or Fell street, I forget which, both weren't very far from me and that put me on the now gone elevated 101 extension going south and in short order I was on 280 going south so it took me but a half hour to get to the exit that would put one onto that lovely road. I never went there on a weekend. Ten thirty in the morning was my favorite time as you had the road pretty much to yourself at that time of day. Being self employed had it's advantages. That road has been so beloved for decades by motor enthusiasts as well as sightseers. An interesting tidbit, I was out there one morning and had a bit of fun with a fellow in a Toyota Supra. It wasn't the now legendary turbo model but the previous one. We both stopped at that overlook point that gives you a view of the bay and got to talking a bit. I didn't know it then but later learned that was someone who I think you may have known Fred Paroutaud?
He and Jack Riddell founded the VLG a website I help out a bit with now as a moderator. I know that you're familiar with Jack and his 400GT as I saw your car one time at a "Lunch in The Clouds" but we've never formally met. What an amazing house that is. Often it's truly a small world ...

I miss the driving experience of California roads but not the state. In May we attended the TMC event Pismo Beach Rally in a rental Mercedes and I enjoyed that until I threw my back out. I'm afraid I wasn't much fun after that. It took a month to recover. My apologies to any fellow club member who saw me there.

Those roads reminded me a bit of the SF Bay area experience.

 

Took the Mistral out today to European Sports Cars and Coffee in Ashland Oregon, about a 45 minute drive. Got there a little early so many cars hadn't shown up yet. Toady there was a mixture of Porsches, XKEs, MGs,.a Fiat and of course the lonely Maserati. It drew a lot of attention even from those that seen it before.

Hi Erik,
It looks like nobody replied to your question! The structure is a roof that covers the bridge and originated in the Colonial days. The purpose was to protect the wood bridge structure from weather and aging. An exposed wood bridge would last 20 years, a covered bridge could last over 100.

These were built mostly in the northeast US: Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine, but there are many further west too. If you Google "Covered Bridge" you will see preserved or re-produced examples. They are popular destinations for car cruises and tourists ... they are part of the "image" of New England.

Ghibli picked up yesterday on its way to Kirkland, Washington. Car will again participate in the 1,600 mile Pebble Beach Motoring Classic drive from Kirkland to Monterey. With any luck it will be at Concorso Italiano next month.

We were there a couple of years ago. I had always wanted to stay there. Somehow we got a great room in the old lodge. Not that's completely truthful I know how ... my wife is very persistent and knows how to talk to hotel people, call her a hotel Karen. Anyway we really loved being there. We never got down onto the lake as she couldn't do the hike down. It was crowded though. Where's your next stop?

How's it doing for fuel mileage on this trip?

 

Not great when it comes to fuel efficiency. About 13 miles per gallon. I run one tank until it is almost empty. Fill that tank and switch to the other. This avoids having the pull the fuel hose over the trunk.

Oil consumption has been zero.
