I posted this in the 296 thread but someone suggested to post here as well: My 296 is arriving much sooner than originally scheduled. It was always the plan to trade in the F8 like I did in the past with my 458 and 488 so basically moving to the next model in line. Now, the dealer told me a lot of the customers regret the move to 296 and although they all say it is an amazing and very fast car, most decide to sell after 6 to 12 months of ownership. A lot comment it is much better for daily driving but not raw enough. It is not an issue to have to sell the 296 after "trying" it out but it won't be possible to get my previous model back which I specced to my likings and it is always a plus to be the first owner. I can't really justify to keep both as I also own a Tecnica and 992 GT3 which are 2 completely different cars anyway. So I would love to hear from previous 458/488/F8 owners that moved to the 296 how they feel about it? Thanks in advance!
Excellent question. I have no answer. But I couldn’t imagine trading mine for a 296 and I didn’t even spec my own or buy it new. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Though I can’t comment directly as I don’t own a 296, I got good driving time with the 296 demo at my local dealer and enjoyed it very much (extremely fast) but not enough to trade in my F8, which I too spec’d myself to my liking. In addition the depreciation in the 296 is so immense that I’d rather wait and buy at a deep discount down the road. I also cancelled my SF90 spider order 3 months ago. Got tired of waiting, it had been 3 years, and the thought of losing $150k plus just didn’t sit well with me. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
There are circa 130 296s for sale on autotrader. In about six months probably more. Many will be sitting for a long time. Straight line speed should not be a motivating factor to get one. The notion that you can sell and get your money back might not be reality this winter. Just my 02.$
I recently drove a SF90 Coupe and that car is AMAZING! When I decide to buy one it will be in addtion to my 488 Spider not a trade. I can't let go of my 488. If you can swing it I'd keep both for sometime then decide which one needs to go that way you are making an informed decision. I did this with my Huracan 610-4 when my 488 arrived I kept it. Over the following 12 months the car was driven 5 times so I traded it in on a 991.2 Turbo S and I am very happy with how that went. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I was offered a 296 Spider allocation - recently and not ever having put down a deposit for one. So seems demand isn't quite what might have been expected. I passed for a few reasons. One, the starting MSRP of the 296 is 100k more than my F8 was and I certainly don't think it's 100k better than my F8. And even if it were the same price, I personally like the look of the F8 a lot more. I don't dislike the 296, I just prefer the F8. The front end of the 296 appears classic but boring to me, and the backend looks modern, but it looks so different from the front that it feels like two different design languages in one car. And as much as everyone raves about the sound of the 296, I didn't find it any better than the F8 - at least from the driver's seat. So, I'll keep my F8. And at the rate of increase in prices of recent cars (including Porsche), I may never be able to buy another new supercar.
Let me answer your question in reverse. I had to opportunity to move from a Pista to a 296. I passed on that opportunity. Do I regret it? No.
i have a 488 and got some proper driving time in the 296 gtb and gts, very fast and the cars can really take a corner like they are on rails. Sounds pretty decent too. Found the cabin to be much too cramped, the new digital dash etc. not a big fan. decided to stick to my well specd. 488..
They are close... but there is no guarantee, I remember that the 488 prices were announced to be lower than 458's, and it actually never happened (of course there are 458 priced more than some 488, but for similar conditions the 488 are still more expensive). That being said, the used 296 prices seem to decrease faster than for previous models, and it's particularly clear when comparing with the F8, which is just entering its "depreciation phase". Regarding the polls results, it's nice to see that typically people are happy with what they do (given the amounts of money we're talking about, the other way would be concerning): those who switched to the 296 do not regret it, those who kept the previous model do not regret it... For me the 296 is better than my 488 (with the reliability question still pending), but I could not justify the price gap (this assessment is related to my personal wealth, or lack of, though).
I was offered an early allocation for a 296S. I passed even after driving a GTB. My feeling was I didn’t like the fact that it was so much more expensive than the F8 and I was afraid of the V6 with the electrical component. Fast forward,I was able to sit in a new GTS and I couldn’t get the seat to go back far enough to my liking. I felt the steering wheel was in my face and I’m only 5’10. I’m sure it’s a great car but just not for me.
I’ve had two F8s , two 488s and a pista, and while I crapped on hybrids forever , the 296 with the AF has blown me away. And for anything not on a track trying to set a personal best, this is the best all around Ferrari I’ve ever driven including the pista in the comparison. It’s miami. I need a glove compartment for my Glock and my insurance card and a spare credit card … With that said, in my opinion the dash and the haptics just suck. I wish there was a way to keep the Ferrari dials and readouts and just have car play in a portion of the screen not the whole thing . Since I figured out the haptic lock so I wasn’t hitting a button inadvertently every 9 seconds, this is the only completely intolerable part of the car for me now . When I shoe horned myself into the 296 at the Tampa Ferrari launch event it was a big nope from me. The 296 does not exude exotic car wow factor looks like past Ferrari cars.
CarPlay doesn't have to take up your whole screen. You can hit the back/home button (on the touchpad on the right side of the steering wheel) until you see the list of apps. From there, select the 'Ferrari' app, and the digital tach will reappear, and CarPlay will be relegated to a side of the screen.
As a 246GT owner I was thinking, "Cool, a modern Dino," but the design doesn't flow for me visually with those big squared off side intakes. It just doesn't look right and at 6'1" I really appreciate the legroom in the 488.
It actually upsets me that the design is SOOOO weak.... I mean, I had/have ZERO intention of getting anything after the F8 but it still makes me sad to see such an ugly car come from Ferrari..... and that 12Cilindri MIGHT be going in that same direction.... Ferrari was doing REALLY good in my opinion with 488, Pista, F8, 812 and even the SF90 and Purosangue but the Roma started to fade a bit, the 12Cilindri is not pretty (especially the rear) but the 296 is just a disaster
I recently used a 296 GTB as a test vehicle and although not very detailed, I had some impressions about the vehicle. -This is a subjective issue, but I like the type of car, at least I can't say it's definitely bad. -The car is incredibly fast and technological, but in the Ferrari world, a very electronic or technological car does not mean much to me, as 458/488/F8 are technological and modern enough in these cars. -The interior of the car seemed too small for me and I did not feel comfortable. (I am 180 cm tall and weigh around 80 kilos) - A 6 cylinder Ferrari sounds weird. Frankly, its sound is nice, but it still doesn't taste like the v8 or v12 Ferraris. -In short, the 296 GTB is a new class and I think it is definitely a good car, but I would not sacrifice any of the V8 Ferraris mentioned above for the 296. If I wanted to switch to another Ferrari vehicle, this car would be 812 sf in direct proportion to the budget or if I have a much larger budget, I would wait for the new model 12 cilindiri. Have a nice day.
I had 2 F430’s over 11 years— loved them but definitely don’t regret having the F8 instead. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I was offered a 296 allocation shortly after I picked up my F8. After seeing it in person I couldn't do it. From the side it reminds me of a snake although the back end looks good. Fast forward a year and I tracked one at the Monticello Motor Club. The speed was quite impressive, but I wouldn't trade for it. Add it to your collection if you want, but don't let it be your collection.
BUT YOU JUST SAID YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE KEPT IT INSTEAD OF THE F8??? BUT NOW YOU DONT REGRET IT? YOU LITERALLY REGRETTED IT IN YOUR LAST POST. ARE YOU OK?
