This still camouflaged 12 C coupé was recently photographed accelerating around Fiorano. In one of the pictures are visible the rear flaps raised. My guess is that they'e trying to improve the 812 SF's lap time. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It seems that even on the test cars they are not allowed to cover those 'black bits' for visual effect...
For these black bits to be covered, you have first to cross through the lifeless body of a great creator.
This just highlights the absurdity of this design. The car is ‘restrained elegance’ … but it has weird active aero winglets on top of the car. lol. Can you say ‘disjointed’ Manzoni ? How forced. How contrived. How inconceivablely stupid.
I believe the word you're looking for is not "inconceivably," but something else. And given your hubris, I'd put the adverb "totally" in there for good measure. But I hear you brother. As we say on the hunting forums "life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun......." For me, the last straw. Been there. Done that. But I'm pretty much done with Ferrari. Too old, too tired & losing interest in cars in general. Getting pragmatic in my old years- I might even skip the Brits get an S class and be done with it.
I’m with YOU brother. If this is the design direction of Ferrari … ‘restrained elegance’ in the regular production cars and ‘race inspired’ designs only available in limited editions … who the F needs them. Might as well avoid all the hassle and hoops to jump through and buy an Aston Martin. Ferrari is losing its way under current leadership.
A bit off-topic, but I find it somewhat funny how much effort Lamborghini made with Revuelto and its hybrid system to bridge the gap to 12 Cilindri in horsepower war (1015 PS vs 830 PS) and then comes Corvette ZR1 (2025) and leaves Lambo behind with a more powerful and lighter car. It has 1064 HP / 873 kW / 1087 PS. And with a much cheaper price tag. You just can't stay ahead in the horsepower war. https://news.chevrolet.com/newsroom/news.detail.html/Pages/news/us/en/2024/jul/0725-zr1.html
Yeah. I played with Matchbox in the 60s & 70a. Hated Hot Wheels. Whole lineup has similar goofiness all over............. can't see spending half a mill on a car that looks as ridiculous as the toys I didn't like 60 years ago. ps Was told the Vanquish III was "awesome" at the dealer reveal last month at the Peterson. Waiting on it. Afraid I'm gonna love it...........
My understanding is that the car is supposed to be elegant when stationary, or driven slowly, but have the active aero stabilise it at high speeds. I don't see where the problem lies with that. It's not only about a power number, but about the actual performance of the car. That Lambo is slower than a 5 year old Ferrari SF90 Stradale, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were quicker than the ZR1.
In the power numbers competition, the only one that can compare with the Revuelto and the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is the SF 90. The 12C with its naturally aspirated V12 engine is in another category and is therefore not comparable with those two. However, in terms of design, both the Revuelto and the ZR1 look very Lamborghini and Corvette from every angle. I can't say the same about the 12 C.
It’s funny … for 70 years … GT cars managed to not get airborne even without having the benefit of aero flap bat wings on top of their rear fenders … but now the masters of discrete aero say their ‘elegant GT’ requires them lol! … and if they aren’t necessary then by definition they are superfluous. So now everyone is just stuck with these unsightly black bits that piss them off. Great job Ferrari.
When one reaches 150 mph, the difference is noticeable. For those that drive their 800+ HP Ferraris to Cars and Coffee, those things are immaterial...
You are lost like new Ferrari direction. Compared 12 Cillindri with revuelto ????? Ferrari it’s only brand made 12 Cillindri without hybrid it’s appreciated just for that. For the competitor of the tractor exist sf90 5 years old now and next year become new one. Revuelto its maximum technology disponible for tractor Italian and sf90 beat easily. Unfortunately this chat changed a lot in this past years like Ferrari of course but with more success for my loved brand fortunately.
I’ve never been an AM guy. To me they were a prettier version of a MB SL and lagged behind MB AMG versions(and Ferrari/Lambo/Mclaren) in performance. That has started to change and the new Vanguish may indeed change my mind about the AM brand. Yes AM cars depreciate worse than a dropped brick but frankly Ferrari has seen better days from a depreciation point of view. Now we have an uglier, heavier, bigger, quieter and not appreciably faster version of the 812 whose stratospheric price leaves no room for appreciation let alone maintenance of value. It makes it the Mondial(whose design I love BTW!) of today. Let’s see AM Vanquish 825 hp (V12 turbo- probably similar sounds), Lambo Revuelto(hybrid V12 1001hp better sound), Corvette ZR1(turbo V8 1025hp), SL 63 (805 hp turbo V8 hybrid), McLaren 750S, Porsche etc. I think you get the point- there are a lot of performance options- many at a better price/ performance ratio out side the Ferrari fold with similar “sport/supercar” esthetic without the added “Ferrari” club experience of a 2 year wait, buy this to get that and pay through the nose experience all bundled up together. The 812 was the peak for the front engine V12 experience for a regular production vehicle of any car maker at its time as was the 458 for its time and many Ferraris before them. That is not the case for the 12C- it’s a “heritage” model to appease the nostalgic Ferrari lover. The Ferrari of innovation and cutting edge technology was yesterday. Today it’s anybody’s game. I'm well aware of 12 Cilindri product positioning. I was just referring to old V12 rival which is still a reference point from the ICE point of view.
But then what are you spending money on? Granted, I have no idea how expensive a pair of hunting rifles can be.
The main purpose of active aero is to: 1) Improve ride quality 2) Reduce fuel consumption / emissions 3) Improve road holding when needed For a GT car, the first two are the most important. That's why the flaps will be closed over 99 % of the time the car is driven. I don't think it is a real visual issue because those flaps are getting activated only when producing over 0.5 g of lateral/braking forces.
It’s a new direction geared to make the brand desirable for a new generation of consumers. Obviously away from the characteristics developed for the brand under LDM. Similar to how he pivoted the brand away from his predecessor. “The future success of Ferrari rests on winning the hearts and minds of today’s 12 years old.” Truer words have never been spoken! Regardless of leadership team! Similar to life many will realize the brand has passed them by and bow out gracefully, while others will go kicking and screaming…. as their emotional tie to the brand has become very strong. LDM proved this type of transition is healthy, survivable and likely positive to the men/women actually working at Ferrari (and now likely its shareholders). We don’t have to like it, but it is what it is! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Do those flaps come up independently a la Pagani to improve traction of one rear wheel or the other? If not and they work together a full on active rear flap like on the McLaren would be needed to increase downforce significantly on the rear for instance under heavy braking to minimize rear lift. Otherwise it’s a gimmick Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
It is a gimmick, a nice pair of gimmicks, actually. I am sure that the effect of those flaps is absolutely negligible. Such a small part with such random shape, real close to zero effect in downforce. They just add drag.
