There is a '77 GTB currently on BAT, and its ride height looks very low. Commenters are claiming that the '77's had a much lower ride height than subsequent years - is that true? Even if it is, was it that low? This particular car has AQ1 coilovers, so it might have been lowered from stock.

The ad says it is on QA1 coilovers and it is set up a bit lower than stock in my opinion

That's as low as mine was when I got it. It looks slammed. Great look, but it was undriveable from a practical standpoint. Mine has the Euro front valance that put the front lip less than a few inches off the ground so maybe this one on BaT may be more driveable. But at least they can be adjusted.

I'd hate to die in a crash just because a fire extinguisher cracked the back of my skull open.

So is there truth to the claim that '77s were lower from the factory than subsequent years? From your photo, it does seem yours is lower, but you've got 17" wheels, which would take up more of the wheel well.

Seems clear the Gray 1977 GTB currently on BaT is lowered, especially given it's fitted with adjustable QA1's (not a lot of SMEs on BaT)
17" wheels (or any other wheel diameter) does not affect the overall tire diameter, assuming the +1, +2 etc. fitment was done correctly.

Image Unavailable, Please Login My Silver '77, #22963, still has 14" wheels and original specs tires. I was told by Steve Algrim that the 308's were raised, later in production. Mine is stone stock, and it sometimes bottoms out on speed bumps. No wonder to me that they were manufactured with more ground clearance later in the run.

The 17" tire/wheel setup is the same diameter as the 14" stock setup.

I hope so - I'd love to hear the new owner's opinion about how the car handles sitting that low.

For US regulations, I think it was headlight height they were raised slightly for our cars only. It was not a big difference.
