Surely the thing is that in-house manufacturing of high-efficiency batteries is a big opportunity of more profit for Ferrari, so I really doubt that they will be cheaper for car customers. There would be a big no-no! from the RACE shareholders if Ferrari left any money on the table.

What do you mean they ‘make’ battery?
They buy cell from battery companies just like anyone else. If they were to ‘make’ battery they should have their own recipe for the battery chemicals mix but I doubt their ability(not many can do this) as well as battery companies willingness to tailor the cells for small volume.

They are doing the packaging of cells. Why they do this in house is ultimately they want to eliminate the packaging itself and put cell directly inside the chassis to make it light.

    They are not making battery.

just deleted my post via sloppy iPhone editing to fix a typo!

Of course, I know they are not making individual batteries. Based on who is talking to who, there is overlap with the phrase “battery” to mean “battery cell”, “pack”, “system,” I have a CS/EE background; my team developed and built a 64 bit game system from the gate level through firmware/OS. Plus a startup tech venture investing background since 1995. Which includes being early investors in A123’s spin out named 24M, which has a semi-solid chemistry.

Innovation exists at the physical layer of the packs and the software layer of control software. Wildly different results just at that level. I view everything from the chemistry through final packaged whole to be the “battery.” Most people I talk with do not differentiate between battery cells and battery system.

There is still innovation available at the chemistry level. I agree with you that Ferrari’s volume won’t drive new chemistries.
Being captive to Tesla batteries is not a great choice for obvious reasons. Their 4680 cell is a bust. The energy density of the 4680 would have allowed much better draw rates and thus less heat. Now Toyota and a few others have promising results on solid state. With even better draw rates/density. I really hope there is at least a new EU player for batteries.

Perhaps Ferrari will work with a new player or an existing market battery that is not directly a consumer car battery. I am not sure. All I know is that Ferrari will make the “battery” (meaning system, not the cell) more reliable as it is working on it as a whole instead of outsourcing.

Still better than the swirly-twirly RB17, or boring and stale Murray cars, not to mention the Merc One abomination. And this in its disguised camo-wrapped configuration.

tbh i dont see much of those cars other than the 12 cilindri... otherwise the car looks alot like the 499p from the front bumper to the side profile. In that case I think manzoni did a good job linking the two designs

As every artist knows, you don't judge a work in progress until it's finished. Let's wait and see. Personally, I think it will be stunning.

wow, what a comment, you are truly Ferrari fanatic ..... T50 was designed to be excited to drive and not to look like, that's why it have low weight, NA V12 and manual gearbox as standard ....

I think the front view will be full of 499P and a little 296 gt3 style design elements and something new. The 499P Light bar similar placement on F250 and the lower lights of the 499P with be above the light bar on the f250 but translated to more of a 296 gt3 light. I do hope they will add a center roof air intake to give it a real LM/F1 racer look.

Well the frog headlights and the fan thing are just horrible.
We aren’t talking about Lamborghini, but design must be a minimum exciting for this kind of car.

The T.50 wasn’t designed to NOT be exciting to look at. I’m a big fan of Gordon Murray but he’s an engineer not a stylist. Peter Stevens penned the shape of the McL F1 but Murray did the T.50 and it’s very underwhelming in the flesh, despite amazing engineering stats.

Did I say it’s not lightweight or it doesn’t have a V-12? The discussion was about styling… and that car is anything but ‘styled’.

What do you think a T50 is worth in the second hand market… I would imagine it is still more expensive that a SP3 despite SP3 values doubling

What is seemingly apparent is this was be a large car from a dimension point of view and I have to question why, especially if a V6 is fitted.
