Just got a response not to worry that they're still working on it, just that they were a bit ahead of themselves listing it on the website and decided to take the page down. I'm guessing that means late 2024 at the earliest and more likely a 2025 release date.
A lot of the Lotus guys use something like this for CarPlay in single DIN https://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/dab-car-stereos/sony-xav-ax1005db-car-stereo-ex-display-280006.html Or whatever the US equivalent model is
Doesn’t the screen potentially cover the AC control? Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, that unit has a single din mount, but is intended to be in a double din faceplate. Unfortunately, not a solution for our cars.
For what it’s worth, I bot a cable off eBay Image Unavailable, Please Login and did the simple steps to get music playing from iPhone although the quality is not that great. Will b patiently waiting for the Blaupunkt London 500 for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Resurrecting this thread as the London unit is back on Blaupunkt's website: https://blaupunkt.com/product/london-500/# I bring this up because I'm not super happy with my Power Acoustik unit overall. The main reason being That advancing tracks is still rather fiddly with the tiny buttons on the screen and the controls could have been laid out better. Physical buttons are vastly superior when you're bouncing down the highway and trying to hit a tiny square on the screen. Having and actual volume and tune knob would resolve this and perhaps make this the better unit in regards to functionality despite the smaller screen. Yet to be seen I guess as they've referenced data is not coming until Q4 of this year. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good to keep an eye on more options! I agree on the PA controls being tough to land while driving -- I've taken to wearing Apple Watch when driving and just using on screen controls on that or occasionally Secret-Service-sleeve-to-mouth yelling at Siri to change the track
I really like the power acoustik unit, and have not really had any problems with mine that make me question ever getting it, but i like knobs much better than buttons. That would be my only complaint. I hate the small volume buttons. I have a bluetooth remote control affixed on the steering wheel for advancing the tracks, and answering calls, etc. I cannot believe more legit companies have not come out with these single DIN carplay units as there is a big market for them with all of the 80-90s cars gaining classic popularity. Blaupunkt is not the same company it used to be, but probably on par with Power acoustik. Id be willing to try this new unit just for the knobs.
Been holding back on buying Stockholm 400 DAB until London 500 comes out. Promised Q4/2024 might not be happening. In any case I think its going to be exact same internals as Porsche unit, just different look on outside. There is also possibility Blaupunkt keeps on making more classic look models. They currently have three 80's and 90's cassette versions, Frankfurt RCM 82 DAB being latest. Its getting awfully close to 90's CD look. Based on what they have done so far, about 25 year old classic CD model could be next. Don't have to have actual CD player, just look like it. This would make sense and fit many turn of the century cars like it was always there. Internals are probably all same on three models so making more is just matter of designing more faceplates and screens.
There already is a nice one from Continental that at least one owner has installed. They also come labeled as VDO if you prefer: Image Unavailable, Please Login
@GogglesPisano I just put the PCCM+ in my 996TT and was having a similar menu issue as you described. When I got the GPS Farka connection and others connected then everything worked perfect.
I feel like it's something in the car itself. I also had the GPS connected and everything else that was supposed to make it work. The odd thing was that I could connect it to 12v on my workbench and had zero problems. It was only when I connected it to the vehicle's 12v where I had the issues pop up. Makes zero sense for a unit like this. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one either as there are a slew of others that had the same problem in both Porsche and non-Porsche vehicles.
Did consider Continental and VDO but decided to look elsewhere. Only one back color for buttons and display, low W amp and some complains about them not working well found in internet put me off. They do look very good and period correct.
Blaupunkt's European Facebook page has new comment from them. London 500 is coming in autumn. So its basically year late.
Oh I do like the idea of knobs. Hope to hear feedback on this. Kinda wish they just had one knob and like a press to switch function such that more screen was there like the PA unit. In my 996TT I have the PCCM+ hooked up to an aftermarket CarPlay wireless module and it works great. Auto connect and goes.
On the German page they are now saying July 2025, they also added some more info, seems to be close to release: https://blaupunkt.com/de/produkt/london-500/
Their Facebook has new link to Youtube video about three retro models and London 500 etc. 500 looks very good. Only problem is based on what they are saying, Android Auto is not coming even though its shown on the demo screen. Also small hint about future retro models with older 60's and 70's look. I feel like the London looks too cheap after seeing the video. Lots of dead space on the field that could have been used towards a larger screen. The phone pickup and hang up buttons are basically 1/8 of the faceplate which is a little overkill. There should have been more music related hard buttons like play/pause, forward/back, etc.
English specs for London 500 and pictures of 1970 retro unit in new PDF brochure. d90eda_50d4bdc0d9af4ae0875dbcb79e9ff030.pdf Screen could be bigger for sure. Still London is only unit like that I think looks remotely like it could somehow belong to older model cars. If only Continental had few better features like backlight color options and higher W amp.
