Hello, experienced a total loss on my 430 coupe, will give more details on a different thread…it’s sad but this happens I am considering to upgrade to the 458, turn this bad experience to a change, Since only drove the 430 I don’t know the weakness and good points of the 458 , I guess the clutch isn’t an issue? Are there years of production to avoid or the cars stay pretty similar from 2010 to 2015 ? Any more advices? Thanks
Hello, first of all, you are looking for a very good car, the 458 is the latest NA engine V8 Ferrari and offers you the driving feeling that you can not find in today's cars. The car was produced between 2010 and 2015, and as far as I know, there are no serious technical differences between the models of these years. People said that some problems occur more frequently in cars made only in 2010 and up to the second quarter of 2011, and some people said that it would be better to turn to cars with model years 2011 and above, but I do not have clear evidence about this, this is just what I heard. Also, yes, these cars have a double-clutch gearbox produced by the Getrag brand and there is no such thing as clutch life. In general, they are reliable cars, of course, some minor problems may occur due to the past years, but I do not think it will cause huge expenses. If you do not have a desire for a certain color combination, make sure to buy a car with a known service history, well-maintained and accident-free. Also, having an extended warranty is a very nice extra, if not, I would definitely recommend you to extend it after you buy it, just in case. I hope you can find and buy a 458 you want. Have a nice day .
The Buyer's Guide here is from one of the few motoring magazines that are imo worth reading. Good luck in your search. https://www.evo.co.uk/ferrari/458
Take you time and enjoy the hunt. When you do find a car spec / milage / condition / records you want be sure and get a PPI. The 458 is pretty robust but every car has issues. It took me over a year to find mine. and a few PPIs on cars that had looked ideal... just my two cents vdm
Thanks everyone, Yes as I did for my previous 430, no rush and PPIs So no major differences between 2010 and 2015? the 430 had some differences making 2008 models more pricey and desirable than 2005 MY thanks
This is not specific to the 458, but I tend to avoid the first MY of any new platform. There are no major differences, and because they have all been out for so long, I am sure the ECU Map/Software updates that were released circa 2012 have all been put on the cars by now.
No real difference plenty of good information on this site good luck with your search Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Well there is the infamous brake reservoir issue so would verify that has been addressed with the verifying sticker in the owner's manual- as others have said I would look towards the later year cars- mine is a 2014 and has been pretty much flawless- with regular maintenance- and keep the battery charged Have fun with the search!
Also heard about the engine compartment adhesive which could trigger a fire? All cars including 2010 had recalls I guess is there a way to verify this as well ?
Yes this was just on the early cars and iirc they used rivets to refix the liners once the offending adhesive was removed.
Assuming the car has had any service in the past 3 years, it will have had the brake recall done... It will be on the service records. Mine shows it in the Ferrari app as well
2010-2011 reportedly had an internal gearbox issue with the wiring loom being held in place by underperforming zip ties. They would fail in heat and the loom could then be at risk of chaffing. Model years have no real difference in price other than factors for age and mileage. Very little difference year to year. I settled on a 2013 and have put 2K miles on it since January. It’s a wonderful car and reliable but comes with the Ferrari ownership experience that you’re probably already well versed on. Still worth the expense as far as I am concerned. Go through the buyer’s guide and understand the options that were available then make your checklist for deciding what car is right for you. Market is a bit soft at the moment several cars under 170K-180K. Take your time and find the one that you would have spec’d if you could have bought it new.
I'm not sure about that but here is some bedtime reading that may provide an answer. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/recall-on-all-458.296152/
There is one I was looking at in February that still hasn’t sold and they just dropped the price to 169. I would suspect they would let it go now for at least 164 at this point because it’s been there for so long. Has 30k miles, is a 2012 and pretty clean car overall. Could use the LED wheel but you could add that aftermarket and repair a few of the buttons which look somewhat sticky. Buyers market on these cars for sure atm
Hi, While we are on the subject of 458, I would like to ask a single question. I am sometimes thinking of changing the interior trim of my 458 from aluminum to carbon, the area where the gear buttons are, around the air conditioning vents and the bar extending from the middle of the dashboard. I already see this as an option on some vehicles. Does an authorized Ferrari dealer provide these parts? I haven't called them yet. Or where to buy it or is it available now? Also, I couldn't find much information about prices. Can guys with knowledge and experience on these issues help me? Have a nice day.
No first hand experience but these guys seem to get good reviews - https://myricambi.com/products/458-series

I personally really like Grigio Silverstone, but seems like the rosso corsa is more desirable. I still have a part of me thinking about resale value when I will change or upgrade in a few years, I also noticed a very high difference in price range depending on colours… What’s your opinion on this ? Is it normal that a rosso corsa will sell for 10-15% more ?
I've never heard of the red color being sold more expensively, but I know it can be sold more easily. In my opinion, do not buy a car like Ferrari thinking about its sales, will buying a Rosso Corsa just because it is easy to sell make you happy? I think you should try to get whatever color or colors you like. Also, 458 is not a new car, it came out years ago and most of the cars are seen with red examples, I think different colors nowadays make the car look more stylish and special. Have a nice day.
Thanks everyone! I am looking at a 2010 with 16k miles , all the recall were done (I have the list) but I don’t see any recall concerning the adhesive issue (engine compartment potential fires) did this issue concern only a few rare units ? Thank you.
From what I understand it was a small number of early production cars that were affected and all were recalled. This thread may help to put your mind at rest: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/458-fire-issue-fixed-with-previous-recall-from-years-back.524744/
