    What tool safely supports the cam pulleys when removing the cam pulley bolts? 25 inch breaker bar on the fourth cam pulley bolt is compressing the belt tensioner and may slip a tooth if torque is applied (while the crank is locked at flywheel). I am concerned about attacking with an impact wench without supporting the cam pulleys. I am also performing in situ, so space is also limited. Note that the vice grips just popped off when applying the torque. I see three options:
    1) buy a tool to support cam pulley's if exists.
    2) design and make a tool to support cam pulleys.
    3) remove cams and then support cams directly while removing the bolts.
    I don't think the matchbook cover under the cam caps is intended for this high of torque. The StickyRX tool appears obsolete and doesn't look like it has sufficient contact with the pulley ribs. I've seen some custom tools made by members, so maybe custom tool is the best method. I was hoping to find known method and limit the amount of experimentation or tool development. The purpose is to replace the cam seals and o-rings for major service.

    So no need to support the cam pulley to prevent rotation?

    I use notepad paper (roughly.004" in thickness) to prevent the cams from turning.
    I take a 1" wide strip and fold it in half, so it is a 1/2" wide strip that is .008" thick. I will insert these between the cam bearing caps
    and the cam, on two caps of each cam. I torque the cam nuts hand tight.
    Doing this will provide more than enough clamping force to prevent the cam from turning when I torque the cam pulley bolts to 80 ft/lbs. If you are really worried, you can insert the paper strips on three caps/bearings, and I assure you that it will not turn with 100 ft/lbs on the bolt.
    Like Rifledriver, I use a 1/2" drive impact to buzz the bolts off.

    Same but I use the paper that come on single edge razor blades. Unfolded they are perfectly uniform and I don't have to cut them to size. Since they are folded they stick up like little flags as a reminder to not do something stupid.

    What a great idea! I use the single edge razor blades all the time, but never thought to use the paper protection sleeves for anything.

    What Brian said above. Impact gun.

    I don't know what size bolt you are dealing with, but for stuff like cams and front dampers, I use these heavy weighted sockets; the additional mass when combined with any good quality air impact gun should get most stuff off.
