Not without reason. Someone at VW decided that it was a good idea to send a Porsche designer (or should I say a design bureaucrat) to Lamborghini and the result was inevitable: all cars look the same. Long are the days when Ferruccio Lamborghini said that a Lamborghini can be anything but boring!

 

I have not been a fan off any Lambo for a very long time. But the new DNA coming though is great. Seems some need to go to Porsche if they want basically the same car for 50 years plus

 

The Temerario on first glance looks more McLaren than Porsche. 900+ hp for $290 is a performance bargain compared to the 296(depreciation notwithstanding)

As for Porsche (I’m not a big fan of the mark), keeping the design principles true to the original cars has not prevented them from making some awesome performance cars and they continue to sell like hotcakes. It’s a different formula than Ferrari’s and thus less exclusive but I have been sorely tempted to get GT3RS on occasion.

Sharing so many engines?

I own a Bentley Continental GT V8S and knowing the engine is in every brand out there from VAG makes the car not as special and desirable as it once was.

 

From what I’m told, it’s not a shared V8. This new engine is flat plane crank twin turbo hot V and revs to 10k rpm! 788bhp from engine alone not including the 3 electric motors.

 

I read that base price is $357k USD - so similar to the 296.

 

296 will probably still outperform it.

 

On a track, I’d bet on the Ferrari too. Quarter mile, half mile, and Vmax I’m not so sure cuz 2wd vs AWD.

 

Seems like a good product although it does have a Mc 570 look from some angles. Very heavy for its performance though.

The horsepower wars have not stopped…. A few years ago, it seems like a few of the main manufacturers declared that they were no longer chasing top speed and power figures, but behind closed doors they must have all secretly been like, what can we come up with to DESTROY the competition in HP and SPEEEEDD!!!! LOL

I confess that in recent years I have been very distracted, probably because of the pandemic, and that is why it was only in 2022 that I truly realized that something had really changed in sports cars. This happened during a Ferrari track day at a circuit that I know well and where for many years I followed F1 races closely. This invitational track day took place between the GT winter series 2022 races and there were only about fifteen Ferraris, many Pistas, and only one SF 90 Stradale. As I was never remotely interested in the SF 90, this was the first time I could heard it live side by side with my F12. It's not even worth mentioning that the sound of the F12's V12 is light years better than that of the SF90's bi-turbo V8 which sounds stuffy.
When we entered the track I stayed behind this SF 90 to better assess its performance. In the circuit section with curves I was able to stick close to the SF 90 rear without much difficulty, but when we reached the large parabolic curve before the finish straight, it moved away like a bullet as if it were on rails. Once on the straight it almost disappeared at the end and I was only able to catch it again close to the second curve after the straight. This was repeated lap after lap for about 10 laps. When we finished and parked the cars, I noticed to my amazement that the SF 90 was driven by a very elderly lady.
It was at that point that I realized that although the SF 90 is a hybrid and has more CVs than the La Ferrari, it is a completely different type of car that anyone can drive and still make a reasonable time without needing to drive at the limits.
The feeling I have is that this insatiable desire for more and more power is creating a new generation of soulless sports cars.

 

Yes, if she was pushing it, it would have left you in the dust. I've had a few laps' track ride with a pro driver in an SF90, and there's no way my F12 could keep up to that. Doesn't sound better, doesn't ride more comfortably, and is way more complicated (read: things that will break), but I acknowledge that the SF90 is a rocketship.

 

But you always got close to the SF90 in the curves, for more than ten laps. And see it's a mid-rear versus a mid-front. This shows how deficient the dynamics of the SF90 are, very powerful, but a straight-line car.
If the SF90 had good dynamics, it would get further and further away, and you would lose sight of it.
It is a car that needs to be braked much sooner, it has too much weight for the acceleration it has, and many electronic nannies that increase even more the weight.
IMO, hybridization should have ended the existence of turbos in cars. See, it was a great opportunity to have the linearity and experience of the N/A, with hybrid assistance, and the batteries to advance more and more, becoming lighter, and consequently the cars increasingly faster, lighter and with N/A drama. The SF90, for example, could have been a "mass production LaF". Hybrid, N/A, but with a curb weight of around 1,500-1,550 kg.
The turbo does make the acceleration more intense, but it kills much of the excitement of the car, makes it more complex, and requires more electronics to make something so heavy and so fast "controllable", to the detriment of dynamics.
