    Car doesn't start randomly/intermittently.

Battery is new and fully charged (>12.5 volts), I don't use a tender but I have a brand new anti-gravity battery in it. I'm definitely fully depressing the brake (guessing it isnt the brake switch given I can see my brake lights illuminate)

Seems the car just doesn't register the start button signal or something.

Sometimes it just takes a second press of the engine start button, sometimes I'm literally sitting there for like 10 minutes mashing the button to no avail, sometimes it immediately starts up.

Anyone else have this issue ?

My ‘22 F8 does the same sometimes. 2 yr old battery always on a CTEK tender.

Press the button without foot on pedal. Wait for 6 triple beeps to finish. Then put foot on pedal and press start again (don’t hold it in)— this is the correct way to start all push button Ferraris (or turn key to on, wait for beeps and then press start for older cars)

Getting in and just pressing and holding start is not right or good for it- wish people would stop doing this.

    Shut up Todd

On my 488, when it was sitting for a week, I tried starting it up by straight up pushing the start button with brake pedal depressed, and saw some errors.

Always good to start up the electronics, wait until it settles, then fire up the engine. Initially I thought this was a 458 kinda deal, but once I saw this on my car, I do this all the time and car starts up no issues.

Ferrari Tech back in 2005 when I got my first Ferrari-- but all exotic/performance cars should be done like this, especially McLaren... gotta cycle the electronics etc.

As mentioned above, it is good to let the ignition be on for just a bit and let the electronics cycle. In my 458 I turn the key to ignition on and then wait for all the dash lights to go off except for the check engine light, which of course stays on until the car is started. I also wait for the beeping to stop but if you buckle up first before turning the key on then it won’t beep as much lol.

If you are still having issues with the starter, not responding to pushing the button, then your NVO board could be going bad. This happened to me as well.

im guessing it might be this NVO thing because I've been in situations where the car doesn't start for like 10 minutes. Can't be electronics just "booting up" then I guess

Is there a way to know for sure if it's this NVO thing ?

Make sure the brake tail lights are coming on when you press start. If they don’t come on then step on the brakes with more force or pump the brake pedal with a few times.

I went ahead and ordered the board (255426) on AliExpress

Will follow the install guide and see if it is resolved

@mikey64 and I have both done the swap. Mikey was having similar intermittent starting, and it solved his issues. It was LEDs for me. It's really straight forward and shouldn't take more than 15m. Wheel doesn't even need to come off, just disconnect battery, remove airbag, and you can swap it out in place.

So it turns out there's actually nothing wrong with my board, it was literally just a crappy connection on the contacts.

Contacts for the NVO board on the wheel or contacts on the battery? Contacts somewhere else?

    Cable contacts/plugs to the board

Checked the outputs with a multimeter and there's nothing wrong with the engine start switch
