also does anyone else wonder about the increased number of engine problems this year? even before the hybrids came in. we went years without engine failures being a thing and now there’s 3-5 a weekend Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well Roger Penske bought the IndyCar series back in 2019. I do tend to enjoy the Iowa "soup bowl", with an oval so short drivers get sick from all the circles. But there were only two cars on the lead lap near the end of yesterday's race. I'm used to positions changing on different pit strategies. But when a pit stop can put you two laps down, that's harder to overcome. But this year, the racing has a significant amount of "sameness" to it. The Chevy powered cars are faster flat out, but the Honda powered cars get better gas mileage. So the races -- on street or oval -- come down to whether fuel saving can cut out a pit stop.
Saw the half hour recap last night, Wil Power is out of control, he squeezed Malukas to the inside when he had all the room to the outside, caused hi to crash...and after the race he yells at him...then shows he has the maturity of a ten year old after the restart incident that took him out. these short oval races are really lotteries...
I really don't understand how Roger has put up with Will this long sure he's fast but damn, he's nuts.
And the best of all news is that NBC has shuffled Leigh Diffey over to their NASCAR broadcasts. Good luck NASCAR, he's your problem now. The rednecks are going to scream when they hear that grating Aussie accent. First time he says “Toyoter”, there will be a revolution. So long Diffey, you wanker. https://racer.com/2024/08/20/nbc-sports-makes-nascar-indycar-commentary-reshuffle/ BHW
I'm surprised by that move. I guess with Junior gone, NBC needs someone to scream hysterically in their NASCAR broadcasts
You know that's the recipe, right? 1. You need an ex-driver, or ex-team technical lead 2. You need a shouty brit.
So I watched the 30 minute recap last night, yet again useless officiating, Kirkwood should have been penalized for causing the mess with Dixon and Fittipaldi, the latter was no more guilty than a spermatozoid on its single journey, he had nowhere to go. That Sowery seems useful probably because his last name resembles mine;-) Romain left his brain at home again, pity, he had a great run before the mess.

Except they aren't allowed to use them in pit road. And they want to make the penalties larger if someone does. I get they weren't designed with that in mind but I don't see how it is a safety issue for someone to restart their car on electric power. https://racer.com/2024/08/27/herta-incident-prompts-rethink-on-indycars-pitlane-hybrid-rules/ If GTP and Hypercars can leave the pit box on electric power I don't see why it is too unsafe for Indycar to do it.
Per 'Racer.com', they're going through a trial period, and are playing it safe. They may change after this half-season of hybrid. It's a crew safety issue....to avoid both the crew trying to re-start, and the driver, too, in a loud and chaotic environment.
