993s were the first injection of luxury and refinement in what had been a pretty bare bones sports car. Mine felt a bit more daily driver than weekend toy. My 964 feels more like an old school weekend toy, but can handle daily chores where trunk space isn’t important.

I think it comes down to your taste and tolerance for ancient Porsche ergonomics and experience. For many, a 993 gives you the build quality, immediacy and compact footprint but can get you to an upscale dinner looking and smelling great. I love vintage Porsche, but most probably wouldn’t. The 993 has a whiff of vintage, but also acquits itself well on modern roads. So… I do get the 993.

Honestly, every time I get back in our 993TT, I wonder if any of our 9 Ferraris have ever made me as happy. Love the small footprint, amazing visibility, drivability, mechanical linkages, lack of drivers aids, manual gearbox, vintage looks, reasonable hp, etc. I racked up 8,500 miles in it on various racetracks so I probably understand the Porsche’s limits and handling better than any Ferrari. I often consider adding an RS or GT2 if the opportunity presents itself.

Everything you said, plus built like a bank vault.

The interior on my 328 had already been re-dyed at 22K miles. My 964 looks outstanding at 69K miles.

They needed something to keep the dealer service department in business.
