I never understood that move. It's like when Bottas went from Mercedes to Sauber ... I guess some people would do anything to stay in F1.
Sainz and George is a good pairing. Toto has KA on the brain. Fine he is fast in tests paired with Mick lol. Thats not racing. He still needs to develop a bit.
Is it too late to swap them? LOL Sainz at Mercedes and Antonelli learning the ropes at Williams. I think not ... Probably what decided Sainz to choose Williams was their open contract: he can leave any time he wants if he find a berth in a better team. That ideal clause allows him to still look around for a seat in a top team for 2026.
I would love to know what the deal is between KA and Toto. He bins it 9 minutes into the session and Toto comes on the radio saying 'all good'. In what universe does this happen?
Man talk about being all in. Maybe Antonelli Sr. has some crazy leverage on Toto. Regardless it is absolutely unimaginable that an 18 year old has THAT kind of backing from the head of an F1 team. ESPECIALLY one like Mercedes.
it's not so much his age, loads of guys have had team junior status at that age or younger (Hamilton was 12 or 13 when McLaren signed him to a development deal!), I just think he's being rushed too much given how little he's shown in F2. he did well in regional F4/F3 (but not FIA F3), and not setting the world on fire in F2, I think he needs another season in F2 or a few years to develop with a backmarker F1 team. kinda wonder why he didn't go to Williams and Sainz to Merc for a few years.
9 races at Williams would have been a nice entry to F1. Williams really wanted one of their academy drivers to move up hence their new choice.
these driver development/academy programs are out of control. too many kids with too few opportunities. great if you're an FE or WEC boss though
They are impressed with this raw speed it appears. This is one circuit. Not all and he then went 6th in F2 later on. Ok he's fast but his lack of tire management is not something to take lightly. Look at Oscar. Same issues. Bloody tires/heating/management. He is in year 2. The “astonishing” speed data that explains Antonelli’s FP1 crash Despite a hefty crash in Friday practice at Monza, Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli's performance has excited his bosses (via Autosport.com) A closer look at the telemetry data highlights some fascinating details that Mercedes has picked up on. It shows where he proved to be so much faster than any other driver – as well as offering an explanation for how it all went wrong. The key moments played out from Lesmo 2 on his final lap, where Antonelli swooped through at a pretty impressive speed. His minimum speed through there was 184km/h – which is 7km/h faster than Max Verstappen managed on the fastest lap of the session. Things are even more impressive through the Ascari Chicane, as Antonelli went through there at 190km/h – with Verstappen only managing 176km/h on his fastest lap. Other front runners were a similar margin behind Antonelli on their fastest laps at the end of the session – Lewis Hamilton’s minimum speed was 177km/h, Charles Leclerc was 178km/h and Lando Norris 179km/h. Comparing data from all the drivers at the end of the session – despite how much track improvement there had been – Antonelli’s speed through the Lesmo 2 exit and the first segment of Ascari early on was not surpassed by anyone. But the tremendous speed that Antonelli took through both the Lesmos and Ascari was not without consequence – as it pushed his tyres beyond their limit. This meant that as he exited Ascari, the rears in particular were overheating hugely. So, when he turned through Parabolica, the rear grip had basically gone – which explains why the car turned around so quickly on him.
The Kimi overhype train having a slight derailment? All results show that he is not the phenom that Toto and the believers think he is. What was it, 8 minutes into his first F1 practice session and he destroys the car? Rule #1 is do NOT wreck the car. Then Toto going off on how astonishing the kid is in the prior lap in a half is an embarrassment. Not nearly enough data to make an honest comparison. All we know for sure is it took him no time at all to push too hard and crash himself out of a simple practice session.
Too fast too soon !! Antonelli was probably over-driving already, and that exuberance bit him in the ass. But then, he was under pressure to make an impression, I guess. He will probably need a lot of coaching from the team to learn the ropes; F1 isn't like F or F3.
Both Ferrari drivers looked good in practice sessions today and I expect at least one of them to finish the race on the podium this Sunday.
Por favore- what is the name of that opaco looking red Ferrari uses for F1 now? Thank you Scud Red would pop better it seems
Lol, don’t open the champagne just yet! Like we’ve seen countless times before practice means nothing.
