I’m in the process of reviving two 360 Modenas for personal use, both were salvage cars and have different needs. Likely I will only keep one. Both are F1 cars. 1st one is a 2003, which is functional as is. It does NOT have a 2003 TCU however, but an earlier one from 2000, 185301 version. Is there any way to know if it’s been reflashed? Is that version even possible to reflash? Possibly some shady mechanics made a switcheroo to get a 2003 Tcu without a previous owners knowledge? 2nd car is a 2000 year car. It came to me with the entire f1 system missing. No actuator, tcu, or hydraulic controls/hoses. The paddles are there, and the wiring but that’s about it. So an obvious candidate for manual conversion (Dr S, most likely since I’d want to do the work myself). Question for this car, do manual cars even use a tcu at all? If so, does the tcu version matter much since it’s not controlling shifts? And another question about the one without f1 guts, if I were to transfer all the f1 stuff from the car that still has it - just to see if the thing runs - is it close enough to plug and play, or will it freak out because the tcu, ecu’s and cluster are not mated yet? This would be just to see if the thing runs and is somewhat functional before converting to manual or sourcing replacement f1 stuff if I decide to go that route. Seems like there is a reasonable amount of f1 stuff available at decent prices from manual converter cars (or wrecks) with the exception of newer tcu’s which seem to be fairly precious.
Easiest way is to connect a diag tool reader like the Autel Ap200 old version and see what version is in there No TCU required for manual conversion Can be done ..need a little setup in TCU ..a thinkdiag2 will suffice is the TCU is a 2004 or CS (which it may be) Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
MY03 car, if the TCU part label has 185301 (CFC201.03), then it has not been re-flashed as those are too early to be compatible with the later TCU software including CS.
Thanks for the info. I'm guessing the 185301 TCU in my 03 car is not original, they seem to have a date code in the upper right corner, and it looks to be from 2000, and there is loose bolt on the TCU securing bracket, so somebody has been in there. In spite of a good number of people seeming to be converting to manual, later versions of the TCU seem to be quite expensive, at least on ebay etc. 2 grand or more USD. (earlier ones closer to $600. USD) That leads me to wonder if the hardware part of the TCU from a Maserati f1 from around 2004 might be the same and able to accept more up to date 360 coding? I did find this in a Maserati Life posting, which suggests this is a possibility: "From that you can get everything you need to know to dump and flash the chip with whatever you want, and that is how the 360 guys have been using the Maserati TCU to install the CS software as an upgrade for their cars as its cheaper than but still the same unit used in the CS" If this is indeed viable, is there any repository of what Maserati TCU's are compatible with an updated 360 program? I know AV has a nice list of which Ferrari TCU's are which, but is there any cross reference to Maserati (or any other similar cars) that are using the same computer as the later 360 ones?
Only the Maserati TCU's from the 2002-2006 coupe/spider can be used which are the CFC201 and CFC231 series. The CFC301 from the Quattroporte are completely different.
