Here you go Adrian, perhaps Rob could go over and check it out for you: https://burnsandcoauctions.com.au/preliminary-notice-the-motorist-museum-collection-gembrook-vic/ I couldn't single it out but youl work it out.
I shudder to think the myriad of rotten parts on that car after being sat there for years on end [emoji33] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The most miserable, miserly, entitled, deluded and unreasonable owners in terms of maintenance are classic Rolls Royce and Bentley owners. They even trump Jaguar and Bugatti, and that takes some doing. That's why the engine bays look they way they do. The problem is they're living out their Michael Caine fantasies thinking labour rates are stuck in 1972, at $13 an hour. Turn up to a Rolls Royce and Bentley show and have a look at the scruffy engine bays, frayed fan belts and 15 year old Chinese tyres. Especially with a Silver Shadow, being down the bottom of the food chain value wise. Deferred maintenance on a Silver Shadow will usually bury it. The poor old thing will rattle and wheeze on for years until the brake pedal sinks unceremoniously to the floor. Its final death rattle at the hand of a fool.
It’s a shame because they really are such an important piece of motoring history, nothing else looks like them, you rarely see one on the road and when you do see one you can’t help but stop and look, what an icon [emoji108] (So in short the owners are all tight[emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yes. It's mostly the same for anything from 1974 or thereabouts really. It's difficult for people to justify spending money on a car that does 2,000kms a year. The tide can turn however, the 308 GT/4 (Actually, 308 anything) is a good example. From the depths of decrepitation 20 years ago, there's some very well restored and recommissioned cars getting around now. I cannot however, ever imagine seeing that occur with a Silver Shadow. As always, buy the best, no stories, low mileage example with provenance and drive the ass off it. You'll be glad you did.
Good advice but half the battle would be exactly that, getting good honest impartial advice [emoji848] To be continued Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
One of my absolute pet hates. Deluded cheapskate owners passing themselves off as “enthusiasts”. Jerks
Half the problem might be the partner of said enthusiast, if she,he,shim isn’t in the loop and the big bills can’t be hidden amongst the everyday household expenses, that might be a handbrake for ongoing maintenance [emoji51] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
ALL of the problem is that Shadows are cheap to buy, so someone with an average income can afford one. However it takes a large income to maintain one properly, so the work gets deferred to the next owner.
Those things are unnecessary unless you have a yacht or a horse [emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Or an enclosed car trailer or a glider or a Punch and Judy show [emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
When was the last time you sighted one towing an enclosed trailer? The problem is, you can buy one on an average income.
I tow with mine on average 3 weeks per year, so 6% of the time. Apart from that it's an incredibly useful daily driver, is reasonably economical and can be parked for free in any loading zone (I've never been booked for over-staying). It's also been used by many friends to help their kids move house, so there's a social good too. Not hard to see why they're the most popular vehicle here and in the USA. Ford sell 60,000 a year in the UK too. Oh, and you can mount a 50 calibre machine gun in the tray - try that in a Prius!
Everyone should have a ute.......................youl be the most popular person in the street......then folks will pay you,in dollars or in kind,to do jobs for you......and then youl be sooo popular that you start renting it out........then one thing leads to another......... Just a tip though,a dropside is waaaaay more usefull than a factory tub, though not as secure.
....and no lovely factory applied paint inside the tub to scratch, although you an get an expensive tubliner to fix that....
