Yes, it was made in 1952 for Maharaja George Jivaji Rao Scindia “King George” of Gwalior. I have a picture of him tiger hunting

A lot of these former Maharaja rifles can have short length of pulls but this one as I recall is 14.5 and is made from modern steel (although I have had beautiful Damascus black powder express rifles that I shoot without concern). The 24” barrels are quick and with weight “between the hands” this handles like a bird gun.

    It really is exquisite.

I’d potentially be open for any interesting trades

    What an incredible firearm.

It appears that the cheekpiece was carved out of the stock...the grain matches.
    Is that the case?
    Impressive.

    H&H the very best.
I had a friend that worked there and took me to their range to see how they regulated
the point of impact to be same at a preset distance, in side by side rifles.

To what distance is this lovely gun set at?

    Regards, Alberto

    Hi all,
Am considering going to Africa in 2026 in which case I’ll hang onto this rifle but in meantime thought I’d bump this to the top.
I haven’t motivated to consign with H&H yet, just seeing if any interest here. I’ve gotten the watch bug. Cash sale preferred but I’ll consider trades to include AP, Rolex Daytona, PP, etc or air cooled 911s.
    Thanks

I imagine you must be affiliated with a 'top notch' Safari outfitter, as travelling with guns nowadays
is harder than taking someone else's child across borders.

Besides, Africa in 2026? The world as is, well I leave it to your imagination.
By the way, you never replied to my question of the sighting distance for this gun.

    Regards, Alberto

Magnificent rifle. Artifact from a bygone era. What an experience it will be to use it in the field in Africa.
Best of luck on the hunt.

Hi Alberto, I wasn’t ignoring your earlier question re regulation just wasn’t sure how to answer. I am far from knowledgeable on this point and am aware that there are differing opinions but MY understanding is that these are not regulated to a particular distance — in theory the two barrels converge ever closer to infinity. A “hotter” load may produce crossing. I’ll refer anyone who wants to explore this further to the nitroexpress forum and Shooting the British Double Rifle by I believe Graeme Wright.

I guess the decision to take a rifle like this to Africa is not unlike a big road trip or track day on a low mileage vintage sports car. At the end of the day it may come back with a few dings but that is what the makers envisioned and what it belongs doing

    Good morning Alberto,
Its not hard to take a rifle to Africa and many hunters bring rifles worth up to million dollars to hunt. I love the thought if this beauty (rifle) being carried through the Tanzania bush on the trail of a large tusker. super cool.

Kinda late Jason, but just read it. A million $ rifle? maybe a 1/4, and then some.
Maybe Wyatt Earp, or Hitler, yes one of their guns, but, in Africa? Nah.

People are afraid to drive a 1/2 mil Daytona in the USA, and you'd take a 1 mill gun to Africa? Really?

    Regards, Alberto

You must take it on a hunt first. Hemingway wrote novels of such adventures.

Beautiful firearm. Have you shot it?

I was hunting Nilgai over the weekend, now you got my imagination going. But, this would be a little overkill!

My father read all the African big hunter books and was an awesome rifleman / hunter himself.
It was his great desire to do an African safari. As a Government employee he earned well but with family first = no African safari.
Those thinking about and can afford it get off your butts.
    Life is short.
