348 Speedometer Pulse Sensor Repair - for dead speedometer

Sorry for bringing up a very old thread. However, I just finished replacing my speed sensor on my 348GTB and it works like a charm - and a big thank you to OP - but I just have a maybe silly question: I’m worried that I might have tightened the sensor too much? I gave it a few more squeezes just to make sure that it’s tight and I made sure it’s not squeezed out of thread. Is it possible to over tighten it and how will I know if it is? Big thanks to all.

 

You do need to be careful not to over tighten because they are hollow, and made out of brass. I found that out the hard way, years ago, when I had over tightened mine and popped the end off of it. What a pain in the neck that was to get it out of the gearbox! Anyway, they just need to be on nice and snug in my opinion. Just enough so that it doesn’t back out, and no gear oil leaks out. So long as you haven’t busted the head off, or damaged it, I’m guessing you “should” be okay.
