Hey everyone, I just got back from a drive and ran into an issue at the end of my drive: I parked at my neighbor's house to chat with him and when I released my parking brake to get out of his driveway, the parking brake wouldn't release at my driver's side rear caliper. The car wanted to reverse very very slowly.

Anyways, I got underneath the car with the hand brake inside of the car disengaged and could tell that the driver side caliper itself (vs the passenger side) had not released. I could easily remove the brake cable from that side by hand because of the position the caliper parking brake lever (the piece below the spring) was in at the caliper compared to the passenger side.

I gently tapped the lever at the caliper with a wrench and it released and I drove the rest of the way home. Operating the parking brake a few times in my driveway, this now seems like consistent behavior. I've had to get under the car and tap it each time to get the parking brake on the driver's side caliper to release now. I haven't put it up on the lift to inspect the caliper yet, but I have done some searching around on the site and haven't seen anyone post about a similar issue yet. For what it's worth, these are relatively freshly rebuilt calipers from PMB that were done earlier this year along with new pads, and the pads were adjusted to spec when reinstalled.

Has anyone run in to this particular issue before? If so, what was the issue on your car? I'll update the thread with results once I have the chance to get it on the lift. It may be a few weeks as I have my lifts tied up with some other cars at the moment.

Check to make sure the caliper e-brake lever is adjusted properly. If it's really loose it's possible for to go over center.

Thanks, I'll take a look at this first. At first glance, it appears really really clean since the caliper was rebuilt by PMB earlier this year. Needing to be lubricated could definitely be a thing however. I was kind of wondering too if the spring is somehow out of position

Not an issue with the parking brake lever as it's sticking at the caliper

Too far away from the actual issue, it's sticking at the pivot on the caliper itself

The parking brake is a drum brake so it could stick inside the drum mechanism driver side only

You are thinking of a Porsche 911. Ferrari 308s drive the caliper itself for the parking brake mechanism

Is it the lever or the pulley on the cable that is sticking?

You will need to look at getting the caliber cleaned or rebuilt. It may only be the leaver binding on the caliper casing. Worse case is the pin is binding inside the casing.

That would be disappointing since it was rebuilt earlier this year. Will post back with my findings once I get it up on the lift and can take a hard look at it. Coincidentally what's tying up the lift is I have a 67 912 that I'm doing brakes and shocks on all 4 corners at the moment, playing the waiting game on parts and spare time at the moment

You are right but I think the 328 has a drum break set up also
