The rear glove compartment in my 07 Spider opens (not at my command!) when I accelerate or drive over a rough section of road. When I push it shut (it clicks and closes) but opens again a few moments later. Has any one else experienced a similar phenomenon?

Take it in because it should not do that. Mine has never opened and I have over 10,000 on my Spider.

very odd...I have never experienced that..but I do think they should have made it so that you can open it even after you have taken the key out, (until you open the door) like Porsche and other companys do....it's a bit of a pain to have to put the key back in to get something out after you shut the car off......

still a very small price to pay when you consider what awesome machines they are...

I started noticing this on my low mileage 2008 F430 recently as well? I can't find where it actually latches. Was thinking maybe the latch was lose but looking at the explodes diagram on the ricambi website looks like it locks via a very complicated mechanism. Any ideas how to fix it? The button work well and on command but after a while while driving it opens. Even when the can was parked it opened at times as well. Help......

I've actually never opened mine, don't even know how. Is it a mechanical release or a button somewhere?

So glad to hear someone else has this problem. I have a very low mileage 430 spider that does the same, thought I was accidentally hitting the switch. Guess I should have it checked !!!! thanks

Did you ever fix it? Was there a specific part that needed to be tightened or replaced?

Mine was opening every time I drove it when the weather was warm, since it got colder it has not been opening unless I push the switch...no idea why...

I think I found the solution, I was cleaning the sticky switches from the goo and after I removed the rear glove switch I noticed the the switch did not pop back after clicking it. It was not very obvious when it was installed in the car. Looks like a defective switch. I took it apart by removing the top cap and it looks like the rocker mechanism is broken. I have ordered a new one. Hopefully the problem is solved. Will keep you posted when new switch arrives.

FYI - it's got an electronic release that requires the key for security when you park with the top down - you'll notice you can't open the front trunk, glovebox, fuel cap or that compartment without the key on...

Mine will not open. Which way do you push the button and do you have to hold it in the position that you push it for any amount of time. Does the key have to be on when top is up

The key has to be turned on. The switch will make a click when pulled down and the locking/opening mechanism should make a louder click at the rear glove compartment and unlock. If this does not happen check the fuse. My switch did not function properly when I removed it to make it unsticky and door would open randomly but I could also open using the switch. When I removed the switch completely the door would keep shut, making me think it was not the locking mechanism rather the switch itself.

Remove the leather trim behind the switch. It just lifts up and is held in place with tape. That exposes the hardware to remove the switch housing. Then the switch just pops out of it.

I'm having this problem in mine. It's very annoying. I'm glad to know it's the switch. I've given it an extra hard push to close it a few times to see if it would stay shut, but I'll stop doing that and just have a shop look at it. :)
