It is still showing as available/unsold on the website - times have really changed. A few years ago this would have been snapped up in days.
Agreed, I know I would have snapped up a sub-$200k Boxer 5-6 years ago.....tried to buy a car like this that ended up here with a great owner (Peter H). So why not now? A combination of my lack of desire for a project, the rise in costs putting projects back on the road, and the staleness of the Boxer market where I think I could get a nice driver grade car for less than $250k.
It is anyone's guess. Given the visible issues that are seen in the pics, it is not a stretch to think there are more issues that one cannot immediately see. Consequently, it can be a risky $ gamble given the unknowns of the car especially given the costs to sort things out (paint/mechanicals) and so it is no surprise that the car has not yet sold. On top of this we are at the end of the season for most, plus an upcoming US election, plus a significant amount of ongoing geopolitical events... and so all combined does not encourage buyers to jump in. Cheers, Sam
Peter buys rough cars and marks them up just to the point they appear a “deal” relative to an average car. This sucks in bottom feeders that think they can turn these orphans into good cars for less than the market spread. Part of the presentation is the dirt and grime to make people think a little cleaning effort would improve the car dramatically. It won’t. These cars are all money pits but they’re priced exactly right for the sellers business model.
Gullwing has made a business out of this model for decades now. It's pretty toxic IMO. I have been there a couple times, they know exactly nothing about the cars yet often say they know something, which is especially dangerous. People get into these cars often having zero clue what a boat-anchor they just bought.
