Dyke, my father's alloy 2 cam 8069 had the horse on the decklid when he purchased it in 1973. Is there a chance that some long nose 2 cams came factory equipped with the horse or would you suspect it was added early in its life? The car was subsequently restored by GTO Engineering by the next owner in 2015 and they retained the horse.
Fiat, 375: If Marcel can confirm a "specific" car was ordered with the trunk lid horse, I am fine with that. However, nobody has, to my knowledge successfully proven any GTB other than 4Cams used a "Horse" on the trunk lid as part of the standard build by the factory. Bob: my GTB had a horse added to the trunk lid when I bought it in 1972, so it was pretty common to try to make the earlier cars "look" like the later cars. In my case, many years later, I found a photo of my car when new, and guess what, no "horse".
Yes it bothers me that they covered the original wood in black. Also bothers me that they stripped out the 100% original interior, but that's a conversation for another day....

Any details on the sequence of above events? e.g., Ricky von Opel, crashed while in HIS ownership, repainted black, later red - and THEN you saw it (red) at Houghton? In other words, von Opel's ownership was earlier than 1990s?
08067. Factory built six carb alloy Berlinetta with roll bar and outside competition gas filler cap. Lives in Salem, OR/USA. Marcel Massini
Right - I too know of a car that was seen in a repair shop after the von Opel crash - but it was in the 1970's. But the son of the original owner of 07159 is adamant that his documents show that his Dad didn't sell that car to a Valencian industralist until 1986! Hence I wonder, if the currently (Dutch shows/concourses) swirling assertion that 07159 was a Rikky von Open car, is just a rumor.
