Yeh, that’s my instinct. Just seems there’s a bit of negativity about this car. Despite being best car I’ve ever driven.
When the 599 came out, “everyone” said- oh gee, look at all that technology, the screens, the suspension, its all going to be super expensive and impossible to repair and no one will repair them and they will be lead weights in the future….
Back when I use to lease cars on a regular basis I never leased for a longer time period than the warranty- didn’t want to waste money on fixing a car owned by someone else. Same holds for cars I buy and don’t expect to keep. Ferraris are by their nature expensive to maintain and repair and unless it’s a forever model for me I sell before the warranty clock winds down. Some sell at a premium and others at a loss. Cest la vie. Life is too short to worry about the existential threats of battery death or engine failures. You can’t put a price on smiles per miles. The 296 GTS is gorgeous, drives like hell but will eventually be superseded by the next best Ferrari…
Yes you're right, you didn't even know they were going to make the 296 that I had already seen the prototypes....
The original MSRP was $483K. Now offered at $399K: https://www.ferrarilakeforest.com/inventory/certified-used-2023-ferrari-296-gtb-rwd-2dr-car-zff99sla6p0293556/ I’ve watched the listing price start at $530K and drop $130K in 6 months. Just one data point.
My 296gts is back at the dealership after 300 miles, car is too small for me, it will get sold as soon as I am allowed to sell it.
Dear Sir, you have friends who are not as prominent of stature who are available to assist you in accruing miles! Happy to trade dinners for the service!
Have you looked at cars on the various sites ,looked at the spec of the car knowing the tax rates and the cost of options? They vary considerably from the northern hemispheres. The values in APAC hold better because of the smaller volume of cars . With the exception of Japan the volumes are in the hundreds for total range and in the tens for 296.
Someone earlier was asking about how many particular units per year. Here are the World Wide numbers by model: Sorry about the formatting. Should be able to follow along. For the 296 there were a total of 2718 Total produced in 2023 (world wide) - January - August 2023 was 1700 units of the 2718 total. For January - August 2024 (8 months) there were 3117 total WW units. Model 2023 (Total)| January-August 2023| January-August 2024| 296 2,718 Units 1,700 Units 3,117 Units Roma 1,916 Units 1,329 Units 1,870 Units Purosangue 227 Units 43 Units 1,489 Units SF90 1,880 Units 1,333 Units 1,162 Units 812 1,753 Units 1,270 Units 723 Units Portofino 1,560 Units 1,175 Units 160 Units Daytona 110 Units 75 Units 133 Units F8 1,459 Units 1,254 Units 49 Units
Sure have and I am in APAC too hence why I ask. 296's are falling through the floor. They are well below cost (all taxes paid). SF90's are way worse. Was offered one at 40% off what the person paid. YES a lot of that is tax being APAC but this is not a volume game, its simply manufacturer's that have over charged and over produced. No different with Lambo or Porsche btw.
Grigio Ferro looks superb in real life. This would be $300k in the UK by the way not $399k. Nobody is buying them second-hand.
That's a big drop, but 47k of that 130k is hoping to get just that above original sticker. The other part of the punch to the gut on price drop is likely the huge expense of all that extra carbon fiber, I would think you limit your prospective 2nd hand buyers hoping they want all that, and see the value in it. The ability to customize these cars is an awesome thing if you are ordering for yourself but when you go to sell a super high option car, to me you start to narrow the buyers. A Corvette z06 for example (which also has taken a huge hit from its high) has far less options to equip new so second hand buyers are forced to chose from a much smaller palette.
Heck yeah, even brand new ones are sitting on the lot. You can get a few bucks off a new one right now and at least 10% off a used one.
My 296GTB supposedly entered 90 status in early June and I got the final pic around the third week. It should have been on a boat 3 or 4 months ago, I don't understand why it takes so long to go from final to get to Baltimore. My Porsche GTS took two weeks to get from the port to the dealer, and the tracking was incredible. The entire process from build to delivery was 5 weeks. My 296 build was started in April and is a 2024 model and still not here. No Tailor-Made, no special colors, just Corsa red with standard catalog options inside and out, nothing crazy. My friend's 296GTS was started a month before mine and he is going through the same thing. Now I'm hearing they might jack the price up on both our cars from what we were quoted. So I'm getting a late 2024 when 2025s are being delivered, after the season is over, at a higher price, while the market is tanking. Something's not right, there's got to be something going on at Ferrari they're not telling us. My friend says this is not normal, he's never experienced these kind of delays with any of his other F cars, the most recent being an F8. I wonder if they're having problems and they are holding the cars back, it shouldn't take 4 months for a finished vehicle to get to the dealer. The dealer has no explanation as to the delays. I think I'm out. No sense in buying last year's model in November for it to sit all winter and not get used. I can wait 6 months and get a similarly spec'd one for 75k off sticker if I want it that bad. I'm already seeing 2024's is going for well under sticker. This feels like it's the fall of 2007 all over again, maybe worse, and that was a brutal time.
Let's start dreaming ... a market downturn may remove the speculators from the market, and lead Ferrari to eventually consider designing again cars for enthusiasts.
I wonder how much (if any) of the Would people be leery of buying this specific car due to the issues the original owner had with it, need to replace the battery, pillar damage, etc. "Called service and they told me the large battery is defective. A pillar was damaged and will be replaced. I did not/could not close the door all the way."
