    Hi:
The battery on my 599 is really low or possibly dead. I have a battery tender but forgot to plug it in 4-5 days ago. Not sure why the battery is dead only after 4-5 days unplugged but I might have not closed a door properly bleeding the battery.

I was able to get into the trunk and when I plugged the battery tender an alarm when off. I suspect that the alarm went off because the battery is low or dead. It's late hear so I unplugged it but any advice from the group if I should just keep the battery tender plugged in with the alarm going off? Will the alarm after a period of time stop?

    Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
    Mike

Well, you can turn the battery off and then try charging it. Or you can just get a new battery. How old is the battery?

Battery is less than 2 years old, so am hoping it's not bad. Can I plug in the tender or do I need to remove the battery from the car?

This happened to me once, as I recall I disconnected the battery but left it in the car and put a charger on it for a day. In your case I would first try to connect the tender and see if it charges.

Thanks George, I will try that. Last night the alarm was ringing and didn't want to wake the neighbors. Hopefully the alarm will stop after 5-10 minutes. Will try and let you know.

When you say "I have a battery tender but forgot to plug it in 4-5 days ago." do you mean the tender was plugged into the car but not to an AC outlet? If that was the case, the tender will actually draw the battery down.

Also, be aware that the tender will not charge a dead battery. You will have to connect an actual battery charger.

BTW, I assume you have the basic tender that Ferrari supplies. A better tender/charger is the CTEK 7002 or other upgraded model.

The tender was not plugged in at all for the 4-5 day span. I have CTEK that I use. I tried using the tender but it appears it won't go past the #2 on the charge (pic included). My next question is can I jump the battery or do I need to remove it to charge it?

I learned not to waste my time and effort with a battery that is more than one year old.

DO NOT jump the battery. There are several electrical systems that are pretty sensitive. Sure, it works fine sometimes so there are people who say, 'It's no problem.' BUT, there are more horror stories about blown instrument clusters, ECUs, etc.

Disconnect the battery and try to charge it, don't do it with the car still hooked to the battery. Follow the disconnect instructions.

I would also invest in a CTEK MXS 10.0. The 5.0 definitely isn’t sufficient for a 612 so I imagine it won’t be adequate for the 599. I had a 5.0 in the past and learned the hard way. Black Friday not too far away!

I was looking at the Ctek 7002 unit to replace the Ferrari charger. I don’t see the factory Ferrari adaptor available for the unit. Did you just hardwire to the battery and use the supplied eyelet terminals with the kit?

I've rarely use the 7002 on my 612, but when I have used it I connected it directly to the battery with the alligator clips.

It depends on the connector. I don't know for the 612 but on the 599 they used two different connectors. The parts are available and there is a thread about how to make an adapter. I have done one for my 599 and it works well.

Even some top brand batteries die in 2 years, I just changed a Bosch s5 that was 2 years old in a 612.
The stat says that 60% of car issues are battery related, on Ferraris I think it’s more 99%
Typically a good battery will display a voltage of 12.7 to 13v when freshly charged and engine off and under load like with headlights, ventilation…
If it fades below 12v after a few minutes, you need a new battery
If your voltage is below 13.7 when the engine is running, your regulator or alternators is dead.
