New contender for single din carplay

GogglesPisano, do you remember what that little item was for? Circled in white. This was disconnected from my Becker box when I took it out. I was confused where it goes to or if it's meant to be just dangling without any connections.

If you disconnect the external microphone does the static disappear?

I don't have the external mic plugged in.

I was also able to test the static noise using my original becker unit yesterday. It looks like there is a slight static noise even on the original becker (almost like calm white noise level that's independent to the radio volume level), and the static gets much louder on the Power Acoustik unit. For any audio/electrical engineers, I've noticed when I scroll or tap on the PA touch screen, there's a slight tick sound.

I believe I have the original HiFi setup in my 599. I saw a different post on here that they changed the gain level on their amp. I'm not sure how I can do that.

(on a separate note, I heard from Power Acoustik support center the external mic jack is actually not supported, so if you guys have tested it and it works fine, I'd love to know. a new external mic would be perfect for my needs)

 

I have an after marked small Pico 2.0 amp purchased from Scuderia Audio and experienced the same static. Mike Niday was very helpful and instructed me to turn down the gain. Many YouTube videos on how to set the gain properly. It eliminated the static and works great now. Many thanks to Mike!

thanks. I have the OEM HiFi amp which I don't believe has any gain setting options. I have reached out to Scuderia Audio directly. Given the original Becker unit was causing white noise (albeit, slight less noisy), I can be convinced on upgrading my entire audio set in the car

 

Upgrading to the SA amp would most likely solve your issue.

 

Wish this thing didn’t have such a ghastly made-in-China, white van electronics logo.

I plugged in the stereo and got it to power up find but very little sound is coming out of the speakers. I have a 2001 360 without the hifi system. I ordered the adapter from Amazon as well since I’m removing the factory Becker. Does this head unit have a built in amp? Thank you!

 

@tc91 if two pins then it is your overhead MIC. You could plug that into the back of the CP71W if you adapt it to a 3.5mm jack.

Anyone else using RCA outs and an external mic plugged in? Just tried a Carplay phone call and other side can hear me but nothing from my speakers. Seems the audio might be defaulting to internal amp which I am bypassing.

Just bit the bullet and went for the PA unit. It's actually quite great and I really like it. Modified the boot like other folks and upgraded to android auto. Boot video below:



Someone here was asking how Waze looks on it. It's pretty clear.

Mine has started acting up and jumps out of apple CarPlay and back to the main menu/dashboard... I click screen back to CarPlay and then repeats. Sometimes every 5 seconds sometimes every minute...

 

That's odd, I would try to do a factory reset on it or re-run the firmware upgrade maybe something is glitched.

 

It's happening to mine as well.

 

Luckily I’ve not had any issues with mine.

 

Mine still working well.

 

So far so good here. If it's giving you issues, get a <16gb USB and download the update on it make sure it's formatted to FAT32 and follow the instructions on their website to get it updated that should refresh everything.

 

I notice that when I drive by the airport the CarPlay craps out for a few seconds. To me it seems the Bluetooth has slight instability or overly cautious FCC programming.

 

Hell yeah!!! This single-DIN unit is EXACTLY what I've been looking for to install in my '89 328 GTS. I came across this fantastic thread yesterday. Today, I found a CP-71W in stock at my local Walmart and picked it up. I really don't care how it sounds. I just want it for CarPlay and Android Auto (firmware update required to enable). I'm tired of cleaning suction cup marks off of the windshield. I'll post pics after installing. Thanks much for the great info.

 

So far so good. AndroidAuto firmware update worked like a charm. It even sounds WAY better than the 2018 installed Alpine receiver and amp I chunked into the bin. I'm contemplating installing front and rear cameras while I've got everything apart. Hmmm...

Mine does this too. Still on original firmware. Just ordered an 8gb flash drive to update it, hoping that helps.
