In the past I have built a lot of 1/24 scale models and 1/43 scale kits. I have to admit that these 1/8 scale kits are comparatively very easy, more like big toys. The advantage is that they are good bases to make all sorts of modifications / improvements. For example, I had a lot of fun with the Bugatti Atlantic from Ixo, of slightly higher quality than the GTO. And yes, the fact that the vast majority of the parts are already painted is very comfortable.

I agree with your assessment that most 8th scale partworks are 'big toys' and invite upgrades; but unless you have a machine shop it is difficult to add improvements. My dream is to have an MFH detail in an 8th scale metal bodied model kit.

Michael is a good friend, but he hasn't decided if he will make upgrade parts anymore; I have been begging him to make there Lotus 72 parts he shows in his posts, but so far he has resisted.

I'd love to engage you to build my wheels! I just have a mental block on these things...

Michael, like a lot of model makers, is an "interesting" guy. He's frustrated a lot of people by offering only very limited quantities when he has deigned to offer them at all. Tough situation: as a creator he's not under any obligation at all but when you're showing off things that people want to buy and you just aren't interested in commerce, and let's face it there's lots of time and trouble involved that keeps you from the part you love, it upsets people not to be able to buy what they think you should offer them.

    Etienne,
Your Bugatti really looks beautiful. The 1/8 scale models are certainly a contrast to the MFH, but both have their advantages. No reason why we can't do both. You can get a very nice result with the 1/8 models, with reasonable improvements, if you are not fanatic about accuracy. Years ago I did a full leather interior on a 1/8 Pocher Porsche. It was fun and came out very nicely. I totally agree that it will be nice to see something in the middle between Agora and MFH. I did think the wire wheels on the MFH 250 GT were unnecessarily poorly designed and I didn't quite understand the reasoning behind or some of the engine internals which were then sealed, never to be seen again. Added a few MFH photos.
