233 mph is really impressive and mini bragging rights over more expensive newer exotics even if most will never use it.
The most impressive part isn't that the fact that the car can get there, it's fact that it keeps itself in one piece getting there. That's an immense amount of pressure/load to put on every component including tires.
The Sledgehammer did 255mph with only 880hp back in 1988. They drove it from CT to OH, did the run and then drove it back: Sledgehammer: When Callaway Built a 255-mph C4 Corvette, the World Took Notice | IMSA
^^^ I know he is but I still find it amazing that GM would let the president of the company do it! A lot can go wrong at those speeds, and none of them are good.
Well, I hope GM won't lose their mind and charge a ridiculous amount for the ZR1. Price on the 992.2 GT3 that was revealed yesterday is absolutely absurd!
when is the last time any new gt porche sold anywhere close to msrp the zr1 as with the z06 will be sold by year two or three at msrp Whereas the way things are used gt3 a will still be above list maybe with vw now goi g bankrupt they’ll have porche turn out as many gt cars as people wnat to buy competition is a great thing and gm is providing it who woulda thought that 10 years ago, the corvette being a no excuses car I love the way arrogant companies like Ferrari and latterly porche think they have a market segment locked. The one day wake up and discover that competitors appear and tap into a far larger market than they deigned to serve. that corvette is handing to to porche is just icing on the cake. I dot think the zr1 is a Ferrari competitor it’s too ubiquitous for that. ironicaly the z06 sorta competes with based Ferraris because it has that na flat plane crank
Porsche quoted $157,500 Euros which is a little north of $200K US. Any decent spec will require at least $35-45K in options plus any mark-up and then taxes. My dealer is charging a $50K market adjustment so after taxes the GT3 is close to (if not more than) $300K. My ZO6 was $155K, the GT3 may be a better car but it's certainly not worth double my ZO6.
^^^ Car and Driver lists the 991.2 GT3 price at $224,495 I guess Porsche figures they’re leaving money on the table. But if dealers are still going to pile on an ADM, GT3’s are going to end up being $350k cars to the end user. That’s a big ask, imho… I get supply and demand but there has to be a point where customers start pushing back. That’s a lot of money for something you’re going to tear up at a track.
I wanted to buy a gt4rs it’s more my cup of tea. To me that car would be more comfy on track than the lotus which is pretty hard, and out the box 4-5 secs faster due to paddles etc. While on paper there are faster cars, I looked at it as a car to grow into and maximize my ability/potential on track through ends over a few years. if I spec one how I would buy it then the gt4rs is 165k. Porche reality though is that every one in the USA has 59k worth of tarted up bling and then there is the dealer markup, so you’re oooking at. 250+k car to maybe be able to order lately I saw one with 50 miles go for little more than its 220k inflated msrp, so the exotic world is changing. That being said, unless and untill porche decided to make its gt series cars im enough volume approximating real demnand there will be dealer markups and plently of room for competitors. Thats their buisness. there was something I read in a brit mag that the new gt3 will not be production limited. The caymans can’t be sold in the eu anymore so it’s a row car meaning more supply elsewhere. That being said 2025 is supposed to be the last year of the ice caymans. Maybe they’ll rethink that now that evs are such a hot item lol. but it sure looks to me like corvette is goi g to own a lot of space below Ferrari McLaren and probably dent the used sales of those cars. Woukd you take a used 360 or 430 over a zo6? Some would but some now would not. would you pay 150k for an electrified 911 gts or pay a little less for a na z06. Yeah the corvette is a competitor and it’s either expanding the segment and or it’s eating the lazy companies market share. Either way it’s a player and unlike the others you dont have to fall on your knees and suck dealer cock To get one. go team USA and well done. the z06 may be a gt3 competitor for half price, yeah if you track its not quite the same thing, but as the guys in savage geese said, if you dot. Know the other car existed you wouldn’t t miss it. Further up the food chain that zr1 is going to outcompete the porche turbo and be a real competitor choice to not quite Ferrari things like maclaren Arturo’s and lambo hurricanes. Yeah those two are more rare therefore more exotic, but they’re also hybrids way more expensive and certainly the McLaren is no looker or that well built. Once again the corvette is real competition and will absorb some of the others new and used sales even better is the Vette gets refined from one gen to the next so it can only get better with the c9 The relative lack of success and excitement for the e Rey and somewhat less draconian USA rules means we’ll prob see pure ice berets for a while. Or gm could cock it all up and put the worng people min charge of the Vette tram now that tadge has retired. Hard to say.
^^^ I think the EV dance at GM is coming to a big pause. Tadge’s replacement said they wouldn’t electrify the Corvette just for the fun of it. GM is releasing the new EV’s that are already baked, but they are heading now towards hybrids (Toyota was RIGHT).
Multiple sources have claimed that orders for the ZR1 will begin this February. Seems optimistic but we will see. Pricing needs to be revealed very soon for this to happen.
After 5 years on the market, production has finally caught up with the C8 demand. You can actually get a pretty nice discount (10-15%) on a new Stingray (at the big dealers). With that in mind, it looks like there will be production capacity to actually build ZR1's (assuming suppliers have their act together). GM has said they'll build as many ZR1's as people will buy...
If they build a 2025 model then that may be the only year that could be flipped since a 6 month moratorium on selling would make a 2026 hard to flip should production ramp up. My dealer did not confirm the February date mentioned at the other forum.
