One night at a posh Hollywood party Einstein met Marilyn Monroe. Monroe gushed to Einstein, "We should have a baby. Just think our baby would have my looks and your brains!" Einstein paused and replied, " But what if the baby had my looks and your brains?"
What difference would it make if it were an 8 cylinder? Ferrari's V6 makes a lot more power than Lambo's V8. People don't realise that it makes 300 HP per litre. What does cylinder count has to do with that? The 499P Modificata is a V6 too and that car costs even more. They charge for the performance and the technology, not by the number of cylinders. There are cars costing two million Euros that have zero cylinders... I too would have preferred a new N/A V12 revving to the sky, but this V6 is a technical marvel on its own. The F1 cars rev up to 12+k; the 15k limit is just in the regulations. Even the AMG One, which has an actual F1 engine revs to 11k.
I kind of like the looks, it could definitely use a little more elegance in the design though. I understand the V6, but I absolutely hate the idea. I see the TV6 race cars as capitulation and a hindrance of what should be. Regardless in the end, it doesn’t matter…. It’s a poster car not to mention it’s out of my price range.
How can cylinder count not matter? This is a bit like asking why someone would care if their 5-figure watch contained a quartz or mechanical movement. Ethos, pathos and logos should matter when buying a $4mm limited production Ferrari. A car is not simply a collection of quotable facts and figures, I would expect of all places this one to understand that. If it were, I would have sold my E60 M5 long ago...Perhaps if one is buying basic transportation on a limited budget, one can treat a car like a spreadsheet...but that's not the case here.
I think I really like it, surprisingly. I went from hating the front to loving it over the course of the last 12 hours. This car will look absurd amongst regular traffic. Really getting modern day F40 vibes, which is a good thing. Obviously disappointed it’s not a V12, but that’s a moot point and I get it. The V6 making 300hp/L is quite the achievement. Assuredly, it will sound pathetic from the exterior, which contrary to the beliefs of some on this forum, is a major downside of the car. But I must say, the sound clip on the website is quite nice. Definitely has some degree of V12 harmonics which is a plus. I’m sure for the 799 lucky ones who get to experience from the drivers seat, it will be an amazing experience. Overall, I give them an B+ effort. I like it and I think it will age well.
Can’t help but wonder, given that a V12 was off the table, if they’re getting 300hp/L out of the V6, could they not have achieved 1200 hp from the 4L V8? That would have really been something if we had 1500 total hp with 1200 ice and 300 E. Not saying I’m a fan of the HP wars, but that really would have shut up some of the online haters and made McLaren look silly in the process.
Thank you. Much better. Does anyone know - does the front gloss black panel serve a functional purpose or is it black strictly for aesthetics?
The F80 reminds me of the term "affluant neglect". If someone is doing too well, soon all that comes out is **sh**. Ferrari has reached that point.
Which people? Not sure why you are taking on a position of defense over comments regarding engine preferences for a car of this price and caliber? I don’t think its unreasonable to expect a car of this standing should have received a v12 or special high revving v8 rather than a 6 cylinder small capacity engine. It is an extremely expensive car.
About the powertrain: 900HP from ICE 142HP from each of the front electric motors and 81HP from the rear one. So 900+2x142+81= 1265HP. Yes I know that the "system power" is 1200 but if I remember well the SF90XX have an "extra boost" to achieve a bit higher power for a short time compared to the nominal power in certain conditions , I wonder if is the same in the F80
I'm not the only one finding 12C as exciting as coffee pot then, it marked the beginning of the end, when UFO idea and boring headlights started to be. At least F80 has some controversial design features to discuss and make it remarkable, 12 C is like the concept was: let's take the elegance of Roma and make it more insignificant, less coherent and not harmonic...complete by adding bad headlights and bad vintage black visor coming from one of worst looking old Ferrari XD
The point is that the website is so poor of info, for example, no mentions of the nostrils in front end serving to direct cooling air to front brakes...The aero video is made like the S duct is only working in second slot and the first is useless...which does not make any sense I wonder how many really useful info are not even mentioned...
I just realised that Ferrari probably forgot to take off the camo and just painted it red. Yeah, that would explain a lot..!
Two facts: 1) Ferrari F1 championship car has an hybrid twin turbo V6 engine and a carbon fiber chassis. Exactly like this F80 has. 2) F80 ICE engine has twice the power of the F40 one (who had a twin turbocharged engine like this one) , with the same displacement: that's probably one of the reasons why they called it "F80". And after almost 40 years the Ferrari hypercar returns to turbochargeres, this time with zero lag. One personal opinion: 1) This is a state of the art great hypercar who is better looking than LaFerrari and with much higher performances Ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
every time a new Ferrari comes out, there are tons of "expert" saying "the good Ferrari are the old ones, this is only garbage". Enzo Ferrari didn't like at all old cars: he always waited for a new one, because he knew very well that the new one would have been better and faster than the old one. I like both, old and new ones. I don't share the hobby of criticizing the new models, unless they are something made by Apple - and without a Ferrari engine inside - like the new electric car will be. Ciao
