I’m planning on replacing my thermostat this year when I change my coolant, and while I’m in there, I’ve been considering changing some or all of the coolant hoses as preventative maintenance, solely based on accounts I’ve heard of people suffering from burst coolant hoses while driving, leaving them stranded in their 360’s.
Is this as prevalent an issue as I’m perceiving it to be, or just limited to an unlucky few here and there?
If there is empirical cause for concern, which hoses are the ones that seem to fail the most frequently, instead of replacing every hose in the system “just in case”?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

The oem ones are thin and grow brittle with their age. Worn engine and transmission mounts can accelerate them breaking. IMO the hose off the thermostat cover is the most likely to fail.

Factory hoses are expensive and not the best quality compared to other options. If you do your homework you can get a vastly superior product for cheaper. I ordered my thermostat hose from Pegasus Racing Supplies for like $8 and it's twice the width of oem. Had it on for the past 6 years without issue.

Good to hear. I’ve been looking at the AW Italian “upgraded silicone hoses”, but it doesn’t say who actually makes them. I feel like they’re not terribly expensive, but I’d be curious to know who makes them and hear some reviews from owners.

I replaced all of my hoses on the 360 when I got it. Including the ones up around the radiators in the front bumper. The ones that I saw that really looked deteriorated were the ones coming off the water pump and close proximity to the engine. I got my hoses from Superperformance UK and from T Rutlands. Just get on the parts diagram and locate all of them and spend a good day and knock them all out. Most of them are really short connection pieces between the aluminum piping.

Did they look deteriorated from the outside? Or only the inside once you got them off? What signs of deterioration did you see?
It sounds like it might be a safe bet to at least replace the ones closest to the engine heat…

From the outside they may be a little swollen and super soft. But when you remove them, the insides can have splits, and the rubber doesn't have much strength. Especially the ones with tight bends.
