I wonder if the screen controls different things when it’s mandatory versus not. Mine allows the passenger to select music, seat cooling etc. it’s actually pretty handy on the 296 for my wife/passenger. I haven’t had one before now because it was so much more limited in the earlier days.
Honestly I find it very hard to believe someone will pass up an otherwise ideal spec simply because it doesn’t have this piece of unnecessary screen. Just don’t see that being a deciding force for even 1%.
Same for the (in a GT car) unnecessary LEDs at the steering wheel - you can live without it if it's the only flaw in the spec but selling the car will be easier with it.
I love them. They're functional and I rely on them when going all out (and I do that often), paired with the HUD showing the speed it's a perfect combo.
On the 812 I probably agree with you, in this one I don't know yet, anybody saw a car without a screen yet? that part of the dashboard will look kinda empty without it. It looks like made on purpose to look "odd" without a screen, but of course I might be wrong....time will tell
100% agree, on the 812 it looks even more esthetic without a passenger screen because in that case the model name lettering is at the screen position and not on top of the dash.
I've heard that if the customer doesn't spec the passenger display then the following is inserted "THIS SPACE AVAILABLE. Please Contact Father GUIDO SARDUCCI"
I got the passenger display in both the Roma and 296 and it feels unnecessary, as no one seems to use it—it serves more as a cosmetic feature than a functional one.
No one knows what it looks like without it because Ferrari has never shown anyone a picture of a car without the screen! The screen is pointless and I'll save the money. Paying almost $8000 USD for something that will get used very little is ridiculous.
Ferrari is not the only brand who charges for paints at such prices. Porsche, and others are more than happy to do the same. It's just the time we live in.
Since Ferrari has designed the passenger side of the dash around having a screen for the passenger, we are almost forced to opt for the passenger screen. Otherwise it is simply an empty pointless inane design effort. The passenger side of the dash focuses on a screen. One can choose from many different screen qualities. The “historic “screen or the “classic’,screens for those who are financially in bad shape. There is also the “Special” screens and of course the Tailor Made Screens for those who truly have the best taste! If one has to ask the different costs, then perhaps one should consider a different car!
Maybe the focus of the passenger screen needs to be better defined What would a co pilot in a Ferrari need to do? Let’s say the car was involved in the Mille Millie race, Then the passenger screen should help to accomplish that role Or else if involved in a rally event. Then showing the special notes that the passenger would call out to the driver. When to go flat out and when to brake , or to prepare for an acute hard turn or a hairpin. Or an up hill section. Prepare to go air born. To be able to report tire info water and oil temp or turbo functionality And then have a selfie digital mirror passenger screen which can help with applying make -up with a bumpy road mode and a night time mode for those lip stick touch ups and a zoom out for a hair style mode. This I would call the MonteCarlo Casino Square screen.
