When a car is imported to the US it will show on the Carfax. If you take a car from another country and bring it in to the US. There will be an entry in Carfax of the vehicle coming through customs.

If the car is a complete ghost one of two things happened. The car was imported to Canada or Mexico and then driven across the border on a visiting style visa and then NEVER titled correctly. This is bad.

    More than likely...

The car is either stolen or has a lien that was t satisfied and people have issued new vins to the car and just randomly assigned a vin.

If you found this on Facebook I. The IYKYK section of cars for sale... The car is stolen or out for repo.

Another thing you can do is take a scanner and run it... On some it will populate the actual vin from the computer.

Regardless I'm going to tell you with 99% certainty... ****ery is a foot. Do not buy it.

Buying any Ferrari is all about knowing its current condition. What happened yesterday doesn't matter except in negotiating the price. All that counts is what condition the car is in today. That said, buying a Ferrari without any records is nuts. How lucky do you feel?

27 posts and still NOT a single picture showing the actual 17 digit VIN stamped on the frame.............
And how about the assembly number? Has that fallen off the bodywork, or what???

You, and a few others, have asked multiple times for photos. The OP either has a comprehension issue, or doesn’t really want any help and created this thread to waste everyone’s time who are trying to assist.

Somebody fishing for info/testing the waters with a plan to potentially "legalize" or "officialize" a car?

He doesn't own the car. He said he is considering buying it. Do you expect that he has full and complete access 24/7 to take whatever photos he wants? I've never had such access for any car I was considering buying, even if it was convenient to me, and no car I have considered has ever been 2 minutes away to revisit immediately even if I, and the vendor, had nothing else to do anyhow.

I mean that is a fair point, however he said the car has been purchased by a shop he knows well. Seems like he could probably get them to take the photo. He’s responded here a bunch and not even acknowledged the request. A “I’ve asked for the photo” or “I’m attempting to get the photo” would be great.

Thank you all for your help. As stated I dont own the car and have only seen it once in person, it looked clean but I am not an expert. The delay is simply from not being able to get the pics needed from the owner. After the feedback on this forum and the red flags I am simply not going to take my chances on it.

Thank you everyone for your help.

no, it’s because I’m getting people accusing me of owning a stolen car when all I did was literally ask for help on one I was looking to buy. As if I’d be stupid enough to do that if it was smh

I said the post is mine and I’d like it taken down. Not the car, you’re literally just taking words out of context and making baseless accusations.

Those words are not out of context. Not a baseless accusation.

It was taken literal. You wrote it in plain English. Crystal clear. Not alot of words to get mixed up with.

It's not Rob's fault he took it that way. Literally everyone and anyone would take it that way.

It was a poor choice of wording at best. Or... You are lying... Or... The guy you were buying the car from asked you to remove your thread.and you are in damage control.

But this simply is not Rob's fault or any of the mods fault.

This whole thing is very fishy.

I literally came here for some advice. You as moderators are taking private messages I send and posting them and accusing me of having a stolen car. Call the cops detective, I did nothing wrong.

This car is likely stolen. I can't say 100% but if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck...

Don't you think we should all we can to make sure someone else doesn't get screwed?

This is a pretty tight community and some of the most knowledgeable folks in the world about lots of things, but especially when it come to Ferrari's. You may not realize it but some of the most world renowned folks when it comes to Ferrari have tried to help you in this very thread. They took the original info you posted and told you, for free by the way, that something was fishy.

They asked for more info to try getting to the bottom of your mystery. But you got defensive. I didn't see anyone say you stole a car, but the info you posted led experts to believe something was fishy enough to call the car you were asking about potentially stolen.

IF it is a stolen car (or some other fishy problem going on), this community wants to know more about it, not just to help keep you from getting burned or in trouble, but to stop anyone else in the future from maybe getting mixed up in something suspicious or even possibly illegal.

It could be as simple as someone snapped or sent the wrong pic somewhere along the line, or as devious as this is a stolen car and someone is trying to clean it up to be sold. And it could be your buddy at the dealer has been duped, and I'm guessing he'd probably like to know that.

It'd be great, if you are able to, if you could follow through on getting some more info. It may not help you in this case since you've been scared away from buying this car (and I say rightfully so), but it may help the next guy who isn't paying as close attention as you were.
