rear brakes in, need to put the pads in and do the final setup. I failed to realize the calipers took 4 of the sealing washers each so more are on their way. The front calipers had one pretty stuck piston. it's all rebuilt and resealed. I could never be a youtuber....I get lost in the doing and totally forget to take pictures.
Waiting for more parts for the master cylinder rebuild. Seals were cracking, no rust in the bores. Things look good so far. I get the engine next week.
All the brakes and brake lines went smoothly. had one stuck piston that took a little more doing, but it popped free. cleaned up all the bores, reassembled....things look great. no leaks so far. I replaced all the brake lines too. Here's a hot tip for the front: crowsfoot wrenches. just the right size to undo the flare fitting that is pretty much not accessible. They make crowsfoot flare wrenches too. I may get an 11mm one just to have it. Here's some pics I remembered to take for once. 3/8" drive, medium long extension: Image Unavailable, Please Login Remember it's coming toward you so tighten is loosen: Image Unavailable, Please Login If you need to hold the fitting on the hose, then 17mm does the job. When doing the front, the flare can be connected to the soft hose if the flare isn't tight, both will spin together while you tighten the hose to the 24mm nut and lock it in place. Then tighten the flare.
I like puzzles. The power unit has arrived. It's completely disassembled, the carbs are mostly disassembled but the butterflies stick a little...they've probably been in their bags for 20 years. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login ALL of the hardware was in one box. Image Unavailable, Please Login ...and is now sorted by type. nut, nylock nut, washer, thin washer, the black domed washer Image Unavailable, Please Login Included in boxes was a binder with the FSM and printouts of EVERY exploded diagram and its bill of material. Sorting today will be by size and type.
I used a magnet wand to sort the all the nuts. the brass ones won't stick to the magnet, but whatever did got sorted into separate bins. I dug the tumbler and walnut media out, and started the brass nuts, the acorn nuts for the carbs and the M10 nuts. sjd
I worked at Walnut Creek Ferrari and it did not exist in 1975. In 1975 it was in Berkeley and known as Griswold Co. I worked there too. Griswold sold Ferrari, Alfa and Aston Martin. The dealer was sold in about 1982 and in a year or 2 the Ferrari franchise was split off and moved to Walnut Creek.as Walnut Creek Ferrari.
Interesting to know. I have cards from Nims Dhillon and Brandon Lawrence at walnut creek... Delivery date and beginning for warranty was 3/8/77. I see the stamp now. Ferrari of San Francisco on Van Ness. That's the selling dealer.
The timing plate is built and will likely go on this weekend. There's a little surface rust clean up to do on the windage tray and sump baffles. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did you happen to check the clearance on the bronze oil pump bushings? Mine were worn, not in tolerance and was replaced. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oil pump was in spec. Front cover went on really nice. Piston 1 at TDC. I failed to take a picture of the dial indicator. Slipped everything in place and clocked the drives so the keyway lined up with the pointer. Fit the harmonic balancer, and the rubber is pretty cracked. Looked up Damper Doctor (old threads here). It'll probably go off to them for a rebuild. Good day today. Got the shift shaft o-rings replaced. Buttoned up the transmission and oil pans. Got the shortblock attached to the gearcase. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Started looking into the electrical side of things: Does anyone else have this dash vent? I've looked at a LOT of pictures and haven't seen it in any of them. Image Unavailable, Please Login I also have a locking glovebox. (with a side view of that vent) Image Unavailable, Please Login I can't tell if this is a factory thing or not. MCP seems to show it in their diagrams. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I looked through a LOT of pictures and never saw another one. As soon as we get some warmer weather, heads go on, intake goes on.... I got the carbs all mocked up, and am missing one of the turnbuckle set screws...the carb spacers arrived today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think it might be easy to make a new setscrew from a cut down bolt thread, assuming the set screw thread size is something common.
Good day Steve, Contact T-Rutlands or Eurospares and see if they have any from all the damaged cars that they stripped down for parts. I would be very surprised if they did not have any, as these throttle adjusters have been used on a lot of later carbed cars. Cheers, Sam
