IDK, this site is very fond of comparing a Countach versus different types of Ferraris. And while you have a preference for the Barchetta as an owner, as I stated the Diablo Roadster has a number of advantages …... But I get it, this is a Ferrari site….LOL
Ohh for sure there is a level of idiotic bias here. And let me tell you... Id love love love love to own a 6.0 gt. I love pretty much all cars. I tend to like the odd ones even more. But... My comment still stands. People tend to not measure the cars that were competition in period against Ferrari. It's odd... But it never (rarely) seems to come into play. You either want one or you don't. I think the same thing could be said about a countach. A guy who wants a countach doesn't go... Well maybe... I should consider a testarossa instead... He wants that countach.
When I was looking at buying a Diablo, I certainly compared it to a boxer (just in the last couple of days I told that story in the Boxer forum) and to a regular 550…..I didn’t know what I wanted as it was my first exotic.
As much as many of us like manual transmissions, as we age out of the market, younger people who can’t drive a stick aren’t going to go after them in general. This may not happen now but in 5-10 years it may affect the market if used exotic vehicles Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
It's an reasonable theory but not one I out much weight in on the blue chip cars. If you are going to be a car guy... And into cars .. it is highly likely you know how to drive stick. Or... I guess McLaren f1s and 250 gtos will be worthless
Young people also don’t know how to work hard and save…but they sure want money more than ever ha! I jest! sort of. I guess I’m now officially old
I bought a new 812 GTS in Nov 23. Since my stroke I have driven it once. Course the car is back home while we winter in FL. Going back to the mountains on Saturday. I am seriously thinking of selling the GTS. I really don’t need a car with 800 hp. I have 10 cars with my 330 GTC my favorite. Getting older I guess… Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree with this overall, and not just with the blue chip cars. Sure, fewer younger people today know how to drive stick. But younger "car people" recognize that stick cars have "cache" that automatic transmission cars don't. Maybe that'll change as time marches on, but I know some younger car people and they've either learned stick or want to learn.
It is interesting you mention this. I started saving for my first exotic in 2005 (took 9 years to gather enough money together to buy it), and at that time, there were many people like myself.....middle class guys that wanted aspirational cars and willing to put in the sweat equity and save patiently. Just a couple of months ago, I decided to commit to buying another one (had been saving for 4 years already since my previous purchase) after deciding not to build a watch or coin collection. And NOBODY seems to be willing to save for one these days. Has it been (until recently) the cheap available credit, or the social media YOLO garbage, where “influencers” are buying cars more often than changing underwear?
What Ferrari has done well is designing cars that don’t appear too big. But when I park the 575 SA next to the 812 you realize how big their cars have grown. I used to think the 575 was a large car. Compared to the GTS it’s diminutive. Heck I probably could put the 330 in the trunk of the 812…..lol.
There is a huge chance the 550 Maranello will hit current Daytona values in 20 years. Everything is there. 328's fully depreciated then got back up to six figures. Anyone who thinks a 360 is different needs to think a little harder. Limited/numbered cars will always be valuable. If you want an investment, buy one.
Critical point to assume is car condition . A great condition 1 or 2+ car is harder and harder to keep tight . Looking at Ferrari labor rates , cost of parts , etc. keeps the playing field divided from show or go . Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
IF you can secure a VS you will be fine...at MSRP. Probably. Its believed that at least 3500 Pistas were made (that is a ton). Those cars are still selling for 100k over. Non VS cars are locked in money losers. We have a 296GTS with hopes of getting a 296VS or VS Aperta. IF we are offered one I am not sure we will do it. Why? Ferrari will fully price those cars, make too many. That could lead to depreciation. Ferrari isnt the same as it was 5+ years ago. I won't tie up that much money into ONE car. Especially if its a loser. Far too many other fish in the sea.
I believe the Speciale Aperta and 599 GTB Factory Manual will be great cars for enjoyment and appreciation. They are the right mix of technology and analog. 458 Speciale Aperta: Last NA V8,Pininfarina designed, limited to 499, hardtop retractable, extraordinary handling and usable power. Fast forward twenty years, I think there will be many once 458 Italia owners that want the ultimate 458. 599 GTB Factory Manual: Last NA V12 with gated manual, Pininfarina designed, approx. 30 produced, Enzo Engine 612hp. Regardless of opinions, since the introduction of the aftermarket 599 manuals, the factory ordered 599 manuals are still trading for 700-800k+, while the aftermarket’s are struggling to hold their value.
I think most of the 458 - F8 Derivatives will keep their values and slowly go up. I doubt that will out pace the market, but they will hold value and should sell for more than you paid if you hold for 5+ years. The 12 cyl cars I think will continue to depreciate slowly... the 550's 575's I think are on the way back up & may be around the original sale price ... 599's and the rest are still going down. 296, Roma, Cali, Portofino etc... I don't see much appreciation other than supply & demand impact. Hybrid cars... I have no idea on how they will do. with Battery pack replacements due in the future not sure what / how that impacts value.
I love the Roma, its a great car. The only thing besides the front grille, that I dont like are the "haptic" controls, and the funky faux shift gate buttons.... but I could easily live with all that... the Portofino, has grown on me, but its very color dependent... much like all the front engine cars.
