You can see my front camber is positive. My rear camber is negative. It drives well as-is but I’d like to explore a bit of negative camber on the front. Anyone have any experience with that?
Neg. Camber up front is always great... Also, just add 1 mm of toe-out up front Really, the best is go to a professional. Regards, Alberto
I always use pros when it comes to alignment etc. I have one of the best that will do it. I’ve been researching 308 numbers with the same size P7’s. 308’s got the same size P7’s with 16” wheels as an option in ‘77 and 308’s are similar in wheelbase and basic suspension. Anyone who knows different, please chime in! Factory 308 specs showed negative camber after the 14” XWX’s due to a stiffer sidewall. I’m really excited with this!
Correct me if im wrong, but after the XWX they added more negative camber because the foot print was wider and the carcass had sharper shoulders to it. look at this picture demonstrating the massive difference in shape of the tyre. So even though the 205/55R16 is in theory the same width as the 205/70VR14 XWX, the XWX will have a thinner amount of rubber in contact with the road, However as the car leans ion the corners and rolls round the the rounded shoulder of the carcass it will keep more rubber in contact with the road than a wider squarer shoulder tyre, because it suddenly lifts a large portion of its tyre off the road. Unless, like you say, you add adverse camber to keep that footprint on the road as the car leans under cornering forces. (Also stiffen the springs.) Image Unavailable, Please Login It isn't just this width of tyre that creats this Phenomena Image Unavailable, Please Login the difference with modern cars and their clever geometry and suspension etc is they cleverly keep all of the footprint on the road like this. Image Unavailable, Please Login You can add adverse camber, but do beware you don't find yourself in that position we often come accross with modern cars where they have no idea they have shredded the inside edge of the tyre because 3/4 of the tyre is fine, it is just the inboard shoulder of the tyre that wears.
My race Alfa, has 4 deg of negative camber with very square shoulders, and you can see how well the tyre rolls in. Clearly the inside tyre is not, and this is not for road use, and Dougal is quite right. Regards, Alberto Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think having the option of a correct looking 16” wheel allows you to use it for driving and tours and reserve your 14” wheels for concours. Lots of 16” tire choices. I wish there was also a 16” Campy option! View attachment 3768678 View attachment 3768679
DinoParts has the 16” Cromodoras at €532.00 each currently in stock https://www.dinoparts.com/en/detail/index/sArticle/20961. Superformance no longer has them. They were at £795.00 for a set of four which was a great price.
I wish they made them in 15" with a suitable low-profile tire. The Stratos road car used the same size tire and rim as the Dino but when I put on the "15 Speedlines with Michelin TB5's it was much more sure footed and the speedo read about the same. The 16 inch wheels look a little out of scale on the Dino to me.
I like the idea of a 15” wheel. There are a number of 205/65-15 tires out there that are similar in height to a 205/70-14 https://tiresize.com/tiresizes/205-65R15.htm. There is also an XWX in 185/70-15 that is the same diameter.
