“In his autobiography, Enzo Ferrari offered an account of how he acquired permission to use the design. After a 1923 victory in Ravenna, the Baracca family visited him, and Paolina de Biancoli, Francesco's mother, suggested that he adopt the horse as a good luck charm. Enzo accepted the request, and in 1932—nine years later—the Prancing Horse was adopted by his racing team, Scuderia Ferrari. It was first applied to the team's stationery, and then to the car entered for the Spa 24 Hours.[2]: 43 [6] In 1947, the Ferrari 125 S became the first car to use the rectangular version of the logo.[1][

A lot Ferrari knew about horses! Horses rear up on both hind legs...

"Prancing" on one leg would result in a fracture of the short pastern bone.

    Happy to help, Ken. :)

Enzo Ferrari called his logo "Cavallino Rampante" which literally means "Little Prancing Horse." As shown in his logo, a horse in that position with his right hind leg flexed and his weight put on his extended left leg wouldn't be able to stay positioned like that very long. He'd want to get on all fours very quickly lest he fall backwards.

The video I posted shows a Belgian Warmblood feeling good and communicating with other horses in the paddock. They make fine dressage horses; it's in their genes. The gait is called "passage..."

Having owned horses for many years, I always wince when I see a Ferrari shield. :)

I was sitting at a light in Santa Monica today and saw a red 355 GTB drive through the intersection with not only stick-on shields, but flagrantly in the wrong place stick-on shields (WAY too low), and it was all I could see. @ShineKen living rent-free in my head.

Ol' Enzo didn't know anything about horses. This is what happens when a horse rears and gets on one hind leg...
