Strategic position?? He was CEO lol. Chairman Emeritus? Principle F1 Team Advisor?? I wonder what Gainbridge has in mind.............. Michael Andretti is leaving his ownership position in Andretti Global, according to a report from Sportico.com citing three people with knowledge of the decision. Andretti Global didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday morning. Andretti is listed as the CEO and chairman of the company and has led what is now Andretti Global since 2002 after a distinguished driving career. Andretti's team have won the Indianapolis 500 five times and he is the son of legendary driver Mario Andretti. The team competes in IndyCar, Indy NXT, Formula E, Extreme E, IMSA Sportscar, Super Copa and Supercars, according to its website. Dan Towriss and his company, Group 1001, is believed to have bought an ownership stake in Andretti in May of 2022 as it was working to enter Formula 1 and the team name was changed in 2023. Towriss owns Gainbridge, which sports the Indianapolis 500. The Sportico article reports that Andretti has been looking to move from his current role into a strategic position.
Elsewhere they say Michael has wanted to get away from 'operational' and into 'strategic'. Having someone who isn't like a bull in a china shop as a replacement is pretty much assured, given Michael's temperament.
I think he is removing himself as the face of the operation to make it more attractive to F1 or other series. He does appear to lack 'tact' etc, at times. Is he growing up now?
It's gone very quiet on the Andretti front lately. Any news ? Is Michael still in charge of Andretti Global ?
Will Cadillac split with Andretti Global ? Cadillac Sends SHOCKWAVES with an UNEXPECTED F1 Entry! Cadillac Sends SHOCKWAVES with an UNEXPECTED F1 Entry!
General Motors closing on F1 entry from 2026 https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/articles/c3vly6rlxe9o
Just 2 lol?? Well with Renault out of the engine business who will supply them until the Cadillac PU is alive? Yes the rumor was Cadillac was going to purchase some Renault data/IP etc. PU integration etc. Lots of work to do. I think 27 might be more rational but who knows for sure. --General Motors have pledged to build an F1 power unit but it would not be ready for 2028. That means the potential new entry would have to be supplied a power unit by one of the five engine manufacturers from 2026 - Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda, Red Bull Ford or Audi.--
Does one read too much into things when wondering what factors are in play here? Greg Maffei will not renew his employment with Liberty. Michael Andretti steps away from Andretti Global. Cadillac is apparently taking the lead role of application. The new Concorde Agreement is settled/being settled. The money is agreed upon going forward. Congressional inquiry seems to be quiet. Since GM does not run racing operations themselves will that be the Andretti role? Effectively the same result with just a change in the listing order on the credits. I do believe that one can make a close enough equivalent argument that most of the team organizations are separate from their funding source. MB F1 in the UK separate from Germany. Red Bull in the UK separate from their Thai & Austrian ownership, I figure Ferrari, McLaren and Williams as the ones where the race team is the true company.

As soon as it is official, the Andretti name, and Michael's active participation should be restored. It will be no different that what Sauber and Red Bull and Alpine have all done...they change their names on paper, bring in new "personnel and owners," give the cars new livery...and go racing. Andretti will get what he wanted.
