The camera is powered by the reversing light, the screen via cable to the fuse box power supply after ignition. That is a.o. the yellow/black cable that you see to the left of the fuse box. The hardest/most time consuming part is the cable from the camera to the screen. This runs under the windshield rubber through the side pillar, rider's side, down through the lower body sill rubber, at the rear under the back carpet and through the standard opening through the engine wall through the wheel well through the engine compartment wall/trunk to the camera.
Installed a single-DIN Android-Auto / CarPlay head unit (Power Acoustik CP-71W). It also supports front and rear wired cameras. Works great. Sounds good enough for me. $140 @ Walmart. I was tired of the clumsy ugly mess of mounting my phone on the windshield and then constantly having to clean up the suction cup marks from the mount. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I took a car/work buddy out for a ride. I know it sounds trivial but it's been some time since I could just take anyone out for a ride. Yesterday was maybe better though, I let my son drive it for the first time after his 1st real ride, just around the block but he was pretty excited. Little things sometimes mean the most.
Had a not-so-fun time removing my radiator, heater cores, and brake booster assembly to send for service. Planning to send the booster / master cylinder to Karp's for inspection and service. Radiator and heater cores look really clean inside but planning to take to my local radiator shop (Kirk's in El Cajon, CA) for cleaning / testing. Can you tell me, which lift you are using exactly? I'm looking for dimensions, as I currently plan on buying a new unit. Thank you
Started it, got every thing up to temperature and had my last drive of the year before winter is finally here...
Same here, there may not be too many days like this before the snow arrives. Took the roof off and turned the heat on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Finally decided to tackle the QV’s console “smile” and discovered my car was equipped with the rare factory Uniball Pen option… - Dave
Went for the first proper drive in about 18 months. Started easily so no issue with the fuel or carbs but everything else took a while to be happy in 0 degree C temp. Everything was stiff and a bit noisy until 15 minutes into the drive. It’s always a surprise just how different my car drives straight out of the garage compared to how it drives when everything is warmed up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Replaced my cooling fans then went out for a Saturday drive to check their operation: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I earlier converted my front spare tire well to 'removable' to facilitate various maintenance jobs I've been doing on the car while trying to keep it drivable. But the frequent removal/replacement of the very nice and original early type vinyl spare tire cover with its glued front edge was an annoyance, and I was concerned about damaging it. So I whipped up an interim solution that's very quick to remove/install. Just 16 gauge aluminum with some Amazon vinyl glued over the top and a bolt-in bracket to receive the single thumbscrew. There is a 45 bend at the front that hooks over the edge of the fiberglass well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Took it out for a short ride. I was amazed how nice it is running now. Got the carbs synced, no spitting and back firing. I really don't want to rebuild them, but it's an old car and it has never been done, it's time. I was very happy....till I stoped and noticed the speedo was stuck at 60. Tapping on it brought it down, guess it does not like the cold. Something els to fix over the winter.
Just had a lift installed this week and inaugurated it with an oil change. Got the lift so I could stack the cars but man what a game changer on maintenance. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
