Mine arrived, yesterday, as well. Only one corner damaged. I'll count myself lucky. It does look like a nice book, though.

Never knew the car featured in Bond movies ;) (but never laugh too loud, because in these busy and fast days such errors keep hunting you)

I have the Ferrari in America book. Deliered today from Hortosn DHL - perfect. Quick dip and I cannot see the Penske-NART 512 M engine swap at 1971 Le Mans story which is pretty fundamental but might be me. Nice size and production. Not cheap - more a £85 book but I can see the importance of it.

That is quite the story, also the US Customs kerfuffle when the cars+spares returned to the USA post race.

Hortons is charging GBP135 for a USD135 book, nice arbitrage if you can get away with it.

Just checked and I see Chaters charge the same in the UK £135.

My copy purchased from Hortons arrived this morning with no damaged corners. I guess they are a good filter as they will presumably send back any damaged copies rather than distributing them.

Probably they bought several books at once from Bull so they had a global packaging rather than tinkered individual packages.

It seems pertinent to remind anyone who, like myself, foolishly failed to purchase a copy of the late Kirk F White's fabulous memoir, "Don't Wash Mine", when it was originally published, that it is still available to be read online here http://www.dontwashmine.com/ and includes that particular story and many others.

Done some more dipping. Really pleased I bought it as it’s not a subject I am super-familiar with. The back-stories on some of the characters are often eye-watering. Given spare time - which I do not have - I would have loved to have been involved with the editing. It’s been proofed but not properly edited by an expert in the field. Le Mans 1949 only receives a few lines and it’s one of the most historic wins in any sport, let alone motor racing. Odd choices of language. Anyone know what ‘limned’ means?

The photo reproduction is generally terrible. Revs photos ‘out of the box’ are never great and need editing. But are very big and usually sharp. Klemantaski is always superb. But the repro here is mainly of the “well it’s the only shot we’ve got of this car, we’ve got to use it and use it small” nature. Check out SWB on page 229. I am going to consult an expert. Looks like wrong resolution or something. It’s not like it’s large format.

And on the subject of photos, the endless long credits in caps are tiresome. You only need to put ‘(Revs)’. I was expecting the inevitable modern Monterey or Goodwood ones but nothing yet.

    I’m going back in again…

Unfortunately Maranello Classic Parts website automatically charges £ 80 GB Pounds VAT on top......... which is illegal when delivering from UK to Switzerland. Neither the UK nor Switzerland (where I live) are in the EU. Which means that when I import goods into Switzerland it is me that has to pay SWISS VAT, but certainly not some insane UK VAT.
Also, somebody please explain how one can order as a guest and without the stupid registration. And also, where can one pay?
    Thank you.

So tell me why MCP adds £ 79 Pounds for VAT (20%)? Plus it is out of country anyway.

These people sell car parts, not books. Their CRM system is not adapted to outliers.

I will contact Maranello Classic Parts tomorrow and enquire about the VAT. As already stated, books are not subject to VAT in the UK so it should not be added onto the price (and it is nothing to do with your location). It may just be a mistake. I'm not sure why it is apparently the case these days that everyone has to moan on the Internet in the first instance rather than contacting someone and enquiring directly.

When ordering from France and selecting euro as currency, apparently the VAT is not added (the quoted 479 euros being the value of 395 pounds, the ex-VAT price).
The order is not complete though, as they apparently need to establish the shipping cost to allow finalising the purchase.
To see the VAT vanish (as to progress in the ordering process) I had to register, that's probably where they take into account the foreign destination (it does not explain why they'd charge VAT for a book in the UK though).
