I didn't realise that the front wheel bearings could be repacked. I hadn't found a thread on it when searching a few weeks back. But I did buy 2 new ones part # 112799 as mine we're making a little noise and I've pretty much changed everything else bringing the car back up to being perfect so wanted to sort these.

The problem is they've arrived and don't look like the originals. They have 4 differences.
    1. The bearing carrier is different.
    2. The inner shafts are different. Same internal diameter and same over all length but the shape where the bearings sit on these inner shafts are different. The original ones have a curve these new ones do not. The new ones have the exact same outer face.
    3. The flange where it meets the outer face of the wheel hub (where the wheels bolt on) is slightly different.
    4. The other face where it meets the axle stub has another bearing carrier which the originals do not.

Overall they do seem to be the exact same dimensions.

My question is. Is this a newer design and does it work ok or have they mistakenly sent me the wrong part? I have asked them directly but not yet had a reply.
    Thanks.

    Who is "Them"?

The OE manufacturer for these bearings produced them for Citroen and that contract ended long ago so they quit making them. Current production is by a different company and it would not surprise me if there were design differences.

    Have you tried installing them?

Craig, search "Front Wheel Bearing Grease" in this forum. I posted pics. EDoug

    Thanks Edoug.

I have now fitted the new ones. I went to an SKF specialist and they said the only difference is the outer seal and to trim it. Which we did and they are now installed and fine.

I do want to double check the torque setting though. I see in the workshop manual it calls for 250Nm but the schematic is for the earlier cars. I've also seen much lower numbers on searches on here.

Does anyone happen to know the right number before I hammer the flanges of the nut into place?

    Thanks,
    Craig.

Craig, as Brian said in his original reply to #3 above, ... They were used in all Mondials, TR's, 328's F40's and 412's." Thus, if the front bearings in my 1986 were used in all TR's, wouldn't the Testarossa Workshop Manual torque spec apply to all TR's? That is the spec that I followed before pinning each central nut as shown on page F13. Hopefully others will jump in. EDoug

I would have used that number when I read it if the drawing it referred to hadn't shown a very different design. It shows only the spline early design.

I have had someone confirm as you are that the manual is correct for the settings regardless and followed this.

Wheels are perfect now with zero noise.

    Thanks for all the help.
