Hard resets clear codes and make it more difficult to diagnose the issue. If you have an engine fault light on the dash, I guarantee there are codes. You need a new/better mechanic.

John- Affirmative, procedure is meant to be used only rarely with transient glitches or low battery induced false codes and is not a substitute for proper diagnosis. It will make diagnosis more difficult since it erases all the clues.

It's very difficult to determine which scanner is the "best", but the Autel AP200 is very powerful and it can really help an owner to understand what is going on with their car. The price is very reasonable and the OBD2 dongle can be kept in your glove box for easy access whenever it is needed. I've had great luck with this scanner and strongly recommend giving it a try.

MB- Check with your tech and see if he recommends one. We cannot afford the ones they use.

Thanks for the advice! I got mine today and cleared the faults.
    Let’s see how it responds.

I'm happy to hear that. The AP200 does all kinds of useful functions. The "Live Data" function can help you see engine data real time which can be really useful. Comparing left bank parameters vs right bank parameters can sometimes help you zero-in on a problem. It can also save diagnostic reports which you can then send to a trusted mechanic for analysis. Will read clutch wear parameters as well, which I like to keep a close eye on. Overall a really great tool for a great price. But keep in mind that the 599/612/F430 are really sensitive to battery voltage and momentary voltage dips or spikes can cause you all kinds of trouble and often lead to check-engine lights. So when troubleshooting faults, please make absolutely sure that you have a healthy battery!
