I have to admit exhaust sucks! Car is really muted compared to my 430 spider. I just ordered fabspeed pipes hopefully it would make it better. Sent from my SM-S711W using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Recently changed my cats out for Decat pipes and love it, totally transformed the car. Did the work myself and was pretty painless, though i did soak all the nuts and bolts in penetration fluid a few days previous.
If your de-catting you 599 will get a CELs and the cars warm up, ignition timing and air/fuel ratio's will all be skewed, your engine management will also restrict torque (which will also limit the power). A good remap will totally transform the car well beyond cats alone and is well recommended if you go this route.
I believe @MrS mean the 2 cats after the Lambdas, not the 4 cats in the headers. So the car is not completly decated. Daniel
Welcome back Trev, haven't seen any posts for a long time. You are on my list of things to do but it will be another year or so. TOO many things happening and I need to sort another issue when I get a chance.
I would still like some ECU fine tuning by yourself at some point to really get the best out of the car.
Ironically, I just sold my 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S manual for a factory manual Ferrari 599. The Aston was a great car but when the opportunity of a rare factory 599 manual came up, I had to go for it. I will be installing the Tubi straight pipes, BMC air filters. Also, I recently purchased HGTE springs. Looking for an HGTE rear sway bar but none are available. Has anyone changed out the sway bars on the 599? Or does lowering the vehicle on the HGTE springs with spacers mitigate the body roll? Thanks, Paul Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great write up but curious if you’d drill down on what lead you back to the 599, what did you miss? How is it by comparison to what others would think is leaps and bounds a better car in the TDF and F12? Congrats! I love mine too.
I think that every Ferrari is unique and special in their own way. And each car is a time stamp of the current technology of the day. Today I drove my 599 in the morning and the 575 in the evening. The 599 is equally as advanced over the 575 as the F12 is to the 599. I find the older cars more charming and I really like the steering in the 599 over all of them! To me the 599 is one of the best GT cars ever made. They were designed to consume huge miles in comfort with speed and handling! Such a great car!
The Aston was amazing to drive. It handled well, it was comfortable to drive, easy to use and powerful. It took me along time before I decided to part with the car. As a Ferrari guy I have been looking for the right manual Ferrari and the 599 checked all the boxes on paper, manual gearbox, rare, Pininfarina design, Enzo engine, etc.. I have only been driving the 599 for a few weeks and here’s what I have, it is a great GT car. I could get in it and drive for 2 hours and it would be enjoyable. In comparison to the Aston, the Aston as comfortable but the inside of the 599 just feels and looks better. The is a difference in quality, after all the sticky buttons were refurbished. The 599 took me a few days to get used to driving, the clutch engagement is lower than the Aston and I had to move the clutch pedal over to the left so the top of my foot wouldn’t hit the metal bar connecting to the accelerator. This was a car that I had to learn to drive which I liked. The Aston was easier to drive but less rewarding. The power of the 599 is noticeable more than that of the Aston. It may only be 50 hp more but I felt it. The one area the of the 599 that required an adjustment was the handling. I felt that it was not tight enough. After upgrading the springs and roll bar to the HGTE, then lowering it and added spacers it feels just right. Both are great cars but the 599 is just more special.
599 is awesome. I recently put on Tubi secondary cat delete pipes and the sound is awesome, but it got even better when I pinned the valves open.
