Is this even doable instead of the gasket, or am I in for more trouble?

I know this is blasphemy, but could one open it up, slid down the rod a bit, clean up the gasket then use some liquid gasket maker?

Unfortunately no, the gasket is a one piece thing and covers all the various ports etc, separating the oil and trans pans etc.. very prone to splitting when removing the plate.

Thats what I mean, could a person replace the gasket with a gasket maker product? Then you wouldn't need to completely remove it. Clean off the old gasket and use the gasket maker? Or bad idea?

Mmmmmm ... I lean towards no. Only because the mid plate houses the lower input and main shaft transmission bearing races. Where they sit with the gasket thickness is accounted for. It'd end up being arbitrary with a sealant. Id sooner section up the gasket and use aviation sealant where the gasket was cut.

Yeah, thats probably the best idea, short of removing the engine. Although this is such a slow drip, it would have to wait for a lot more being done than pulling the engine for just this. . .
