All modern Ferraris are filled with a lot of electronic features (and doodads) that require installation of a battery tender/charger at least within three days of running. They're all electrical hogs!

Unlike my '07 SL55-AMG which has two batteries, one for the engine and one for accessories, my 2011 599HGTE only has one battery from which all the computers, ECU's, TCU, etc., draw power from constantly, engine running or not. With a relatively low battery power level, all those electronic devices "talk" to each other so short of juice their messages get jumbled to the extent the engine runs like it's starved of fuel, shakes crazily and runs like an anemic marathoner or like someone about to suffer from a hypoglycemic episode.

I've learned my lesson during the CoViD pandemic when I didn't even plug the tender in and did not run the engine for weeks. A new battery died within seven months! So to alleviate any weird dashboard CEL warnings, I plug the battery tender immediately after I get out of the car after any drive, short or long.

I have a strange socket in the boot to the rear of the battery, near the isolator but also have a cetek plug hardwired. My car is late 2007 so is it possible I have both connections as standard? The cetek has its own Ferrari bag so not sure if it’s an option.

CTEKs were standard at some point in 2007. I suppose there is a possibility both connectors were included during the change-over. You can see the funky connector in this image.
