"Avg sub-5k mile Speciale prices are substantially higher than avg sub-5k mile Pista prices ($641k vs $570k)" We all agree this makes sense!! Speciale is the peak of Ferrari 8's. Turbo's are downhill.
Both cars are simply phenomenal in their own right, so this isn’t about bashing one over the other—rather, it’s a celebration of two incredible machines. Starting with the 458 Speciale The 458 Speciale was my first Ferrari, and I picked it up with just about 1,000 km on the clock. From the moment I pressed that start button, I knew I was in for something amazing. I took it on track days a few times, and it really shone—razor-sharp handling, instant throttle response, and that iconic, high-revving naturally aspirated V8 roar. took it on road trips across the Alps, and let me tell you, winding up that engine through Alpine tunnels was unforgettable. Pros: Raw, visceral feel, last naturally aspirated V8, thrilling high-end power. Cons: Sound system left a lot to be desired (not the premium one, over six hours on the road, you start to notice), and you do have to keep the revs high to tap into the best of it. Moving on to the 488 Pista I was lucky enough to secure an allocation for the 488 Pista, and from my very first drive, I noticed how much more accessible the performance felt. The low-end torque made the car feel unhinged in the best way possible—like it was just itching to explode forward even at modest speeds. For me, that meant the car’s “wow factor” was immediately on tap. You don’t have to wait to get deep into the rev range to feel that surge of power. Pros: Incredible torque, more accessible performance, and (in my opinion) improved build quality—plus a better sound system for longer trips. Cons: Not everyone will love the turbocharged character if they’re die-hard fans of the high-rev NA V8 feel. Final Thoughts The 458 Speciale is definitely more “raw” and, in many ways, more traditionally Ferrari if you love that naturally aspirated scream. The 488 Pista, meanwhile, has this addictive torque band, and I personally found it more enjoyable for my style of driving, especially around town and on spirited blasts without needing to always bounce off the redline. If you’re a fan of the purist, high-rev style, the 458 Speciale is a masterpiece. But if you’re like me and enjoy the brutal, immediate power delivery (and some creature comforts for long drives), the 488 Pista wins hands down. At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with either—they’re both icons of Ferrari’s engineering brilliance.
That’s a solid review. Not much worth adding other than a brief mention that the Pista is probably the single best modern Ferrari design. No other Ferrari I can think of has fewer detractors with respect to styling. It’s as close to perfect as you can hope for. That said, the Speciale is fantastic too, but maybe just a couple notches short of the Pista’s beauty.
Today (9 days after previous post) down to one (1) sub-5k mile Speciale and fifteen (15) sub-5k mile Pista Coupes. yup, I sold my Pista-boring like my 2022 turbo S. Speciale has enough power even for my hidden roads at 165
Today, Jan 19, 2025: Sub 5k mile 458 Speciales: 2 (avg price $700K) Sub 5k mile 488 Pistas: 16 (avg price $569k) (excluding Pilotas) The bifurcation continues to widen.
As a Pista owner this actually makes me very happy. It just means I can drive more, and do it without any resale angst (or less of it than a Speciale owner anyway). Carry on.
